It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2021 that, 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Avaşin area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on October 27, 2021.

(11/170) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2021 that, drawing and painting material of Mehmet Boğatekin, a prisoner in Balıkesir Burhaniye T Type Prison were seized by the correction officers.

(11/171) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2021 that, Civan Boltan, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison is not receiving medical treatment.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2021 that, Rıdvan Yusufoğlu, an ill prisoner in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison is not receiving his regular medications.

(11/172) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2021 that, Mehmet Işıktaş, who was transferred from Diyarbakır D Type Prison to Konya Ereğli T Type Prison under coercion, and was put in the ward of non-political prisoners there, is on hunger strike since November 7, 2021. It is also stated in the news reports that the correction officers seized his personal belongings such as belt, shoes, trousers and blanket in the ward.

It is learned that the appeal made on November 16, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.

(11/174) Özgür Gündem Case…

The trial of the case against Hüseyin Aykol and Zana Kaya, executive editor İnan Kızılkaya, editor in chief of Özgür Gündem newspaper and politician Hatip Dicle, which was to be held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 22 on November, 2021 is adjourned due to absence with leave of the chief judge.

(11/175) People on Trial in Izmir…

The final trial of the case against 3 people, for participating in the protest against ISIS attacks to Kobane city in 2014, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 2 on November 16, 2021. The court sentenced Hacay Yılmaz to 1 year and 4 months on the charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘violating the law on meetings and demonstrations’; Mehmet Turhan to 10 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and Seyithan Semo to 10 months on the charge of ‘resisting police’. The court converted the jail sentences for Hacay Yılmaz and Mehmet Turhan to penalty fines and deferred the announcement of the verdict for Seyithan Semo.

The final trial of the case against 17 members of Mersin Anti-Nuclear Platform, for the press declaration that was to be held outside of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant on March 11, 2021, is held at Mersin Gülnar Penal Court of First Instance on November 16, 2021. The court acquitted 17 people.

(11/177) HDP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) central executive board member and Youth Assembly co-spokesperson Sevim Akdağ, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on November 16, 2021. The court decided to release Sevim Akdağ on judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to February 1, 2022.

Sevim Akdağ was arrested on the grounds of violating judicial control conditions on November 1, 2021 in Edirne.

(11/178) Person on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against a person named Fatih Tezcan, for a social media post reading “My brother who says ‘Arabs sold us out’, okay they went after the English once, but you call ‘Great Leader’ the person who sold caliphate to the Jews”, is held at Istanbul Büyükçekmece Penal Court of First Instance No 10 on November 16, 2021. The court sentenced the defendant to 1 year and 6 months on the charge of ‘publicly insulting the memory of Atatürk’ and did not defer the announcement of the verdict for “the criminal record, acts before and after the offense and no ground for believing that he would not to commit an offense”.

(11/179) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On November 16, 2021, 43 people are detained in operations covering 28 cities through an Ankara based investigation and 20 people are detained in operations covering 12 cities through another Ankara based investigation.

(11/180) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 227 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 25,101 as of November 16, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 73,973 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 8,457,119 as of November 16, 2021.
