(05/118) Ill Prisoner Died in Bitlis…

It is learned that ill prisoner Behçet Kaplan kept in Bitlis Ahlat T Type Prison who was admitted to Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Research and Training Hospital for treatment, lost his life on May 16, 2023.

(05/119) Child Injured by Armoured Vehicle…

It is learned that a 5-year-old child (Y. Y.) hit by an armoured police vehicle and was injured in Silopi district of Şırnak on May 17, 2023.

(05/120) May 14, 2023 General Elections…

The police intervened in the Democracy Watch in front of the Supreme Election Board in Ankara on 17 May 2023, regarding the allegations of irregularity and fraud in the Presidential and parliamentary elections held on 14 May 2023, and detained 10 people. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day.

It is learned that 1 person (O. Ö. D.) of 14 people who were detained through the investigation on the social media posts about presidential candidate Muharrem İnce, was arrested by the court while 12 others were released on judicial control conditions and 1 person (V. K.) was released on house confinement on May 17, 2023.

Kemal Özkiraz, the founder of Eurasia Research Company, who was detained in Ankara on May 13, 2023 as part of an investigation launched upon the complaint of Muharrem İnce, was released by the court on May 17, 2023.

It is learned that 1 person (Ayşegül Didem Doğan) was released on the grounds of social media posts about the election results, in Eskişehir on May 17, 2023.

(05/121) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on May 16, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(05/122) Journalists on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against 11 journalists including 9 arrestees is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on May 16, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for the journalists on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ over 149 news reports published on Jinnews and Mezopotamya News agencies. Arrested journalist joined the trial. After defence hearings the court decided to release Diren Yurtsever, Emrullah Acar, Berivan Altan, Öznur Değer, Hakan Yalçın, Habibe Eren, Ceylan Şahinli, Selman Güzelyüz and Deniz Nazlım and adjourned the trial to July 5, 2023.

11 journalists were detained on October 25, 2023 and 9 of them (Mezopotamya News Agency editor-in-chief Diren Yurtsever, Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Berivan Altan, Deniz Nazlım, Selman Güzelyüz, Hakan Yalçın, Ceylan Şahinli, Emrullah Acar and Jinnews reporters Habibe Eren and Öznur Değer) were arrested by the court on October 29, 2023. 2 journalists (Zemo Ağgöz and Mehmet Günhan) were released on judicial control conditions.

(05/123) The Case Against Ankara Bar Association Chair and Executives…

The final trial of the case against Erinç Sağkan, current chair of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and former chair of Ankara Bar Association, Kemal Koranel, current chair of Ankara Bar Association and other executive board members; on the grounds of ‘degrading religious values of a section of the public’ in their press declaration about discriminatory expressions of Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 16 on May 17, 2022. The court decided to acquit all defendants.

(05/124) People on Trial in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against 3 people (M. Ç., E. E. and T. C.) is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on May 16, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 3 people on the charges of ‘abuse of trust’, ‘deprivation of liberty by threat of force or deception’, ‘intentional injury’ and ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court decided to release 1 person (M. Ç.) and to continue detention of 2 people and adjourned the trial to September 12, 2023. 3 people were detained on October 7, 2022 in Izmir and were arrested by the court.
