(03/188) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 16, 2020 that 3 HPG militants died in an operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Metina area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 25, 2019.

(03/189) Intervention to Prisoner on Hunger Strike…

People’s Law Office made a declaration on March 16, 2020 and reported that, Mustafa Koçak who is on hunger strike in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison No 2 and was forcefully taken to and was medically treated in Aliağa Prisons Campus Hospital Internal Diseases Department on March 12, 2020, on the 254th day of his strike, was discharged from hospital on March 16, 2020 and was taken to Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison. Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office rejected lawyers’ demand to visit Mustafa Koçak and access his medical records on March 16, 2020.

(03/191) Intervention to Grup Yorum Band Members on Hunger Strike…

The order of Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 18 upon application of Ministry of Health about compulsory hospitalization of İbrahim Gökçek (on hunger strike for 273 days) and Helin Bölek (on hunger strike for 271 days) is withdrawn after objection on March 16, 2020.

It is learned that İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek were not immediately discharged from hospital because objection of Ministry of Interior to court’s decision. İbrahim Gökçek and Helin Bölek could be discharged from hospital at 23.30 p. m. that day.

(03/192) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1224 days to regain their jobs, in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 16, 2020 at 13.30, and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(03/193) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest at Bakırköy Square on March 16, 2020 of Nursel Tanrıverdi who rally for 156 weeks to regain her job from which she had been dismissed by state of emergency decree, and detained her by using physical violence. Nursel Tanrıverdi is released on the same day.

Directorate of Security announced on March 16, 2020 that, 19 people are detained on the grounds of ‘inciting fear, panic and worry among public and purposing to target responsible authorities and individuals with their social media posts about Covid-19 pandemic’.

(03/195) Co-Mayor on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Keziban Yılmaz, co-mayor of Kayapınar district, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on March 16, 2020. Keziban Yılmaz was elected as co-mayor from HDP and then was suspended by Ministry of Interior.

After defence hearings the court sentenced Keziban Yılmaz to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and decided to release her upon verdict.

Keziban Yılmaz was detained on October 21, 2019, and was arrested on October 23, 2019. Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Kayapınar district on October 22, 2019.

(03/196) Co-Mayor on Trial in Van…

The first trial of the case against Dilan Örenci, co-mayor of Özalp district, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 7 on March 16, 2020. Dilan Örenci was elected as co-mayor from HDP and then was suspended by Ministry of Interior.

Dilan Örenci joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. After defence hearings, the court decided to continue detention of Dilan Örenci, who has a chronic disease and thus in the risk group at first level for Covid-19, and adjourned the trial to May 20, 2020.

Dilan Örenci was detained on December 5, 2019, and was arrested on December 9, 2019. Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Özalp district on December 7, 2019.

(03/197) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against journalist Alptekin Dursunoğlu, for his social media posts about İdlib, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 49 on March 16, 2020.

The court sentenced Alptekin Dursunoğlu to 50 days on the charge of ‘praising an offense and offender’ and converted the sentence to a fine of 1000 Turkish Liras. The court released Alptekin Dursunoğlu upon verdict.

Alptekin Dursunoğlu was detained on March 29, 2020 and was arrested by the court on the same day.

(03/198) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

Azerbaijani and Turkish citizen business person Mubariz Mansimov Gurbanoğlu who was detained on March 15, 2020 in Istanbul is arrested by the court on March 16, 2020.
