(06/169) Attack on HDP Office in Izmir…

On June 17, 2021, a person named Onur Gencer organized an armoured attack to Izmir provincial office of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). Onur Gencer raided the office, and killed Deniz Poyraz, a worker of the party, after taking her hostage. Onur Gencer is detained by the police arriving the office afterwards.

Izmir Governorate made a declaration and stated the following: “The person named O.G., who resigned while working as a health worker, entered the HDP provincial office on the second floor of an office block, at around 11.05 a.m. and shot party worker D.P. to death. The suspect is captured and the incident is under investigation”.

(06/170) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 16, 2021 that, 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 15, 2021.

(06/171) Attack to Mayor in Aydın…

On June 15, 2021, Ahmet Deniz Atabay, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayor of Didim district of Aydın and his lawyer have been attacked by a group and 7 people were detained in relation to the attack. 3 people (M. O., Y. C. and İ. O.) are arrested by the court on June 16, 2021, while 4 people are released providing that 1 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

(06/172) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 16, 2021 that, 2 prisoners who have been taken to Batman T Type Prison for trials, were subjected to physical violence of the correction officers on the grounds of not standing up during roll-calls.

(06/173) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 16, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(06/174) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration on Sakarya Street in Çankaya district of Ankara on June 18, 2021, which was organized to call for the demonstration for the Istanbul Convention; and detained 18 people by using physical violence.

It is learned that detained people were subjected to torture and ill-treatment in the detention bus, they were threatened to be raped and 1 woman was subjected to sexual harassment.

İlay Kadiroğlu, one of the detainees, stated the following on how they were subjected to torture and ill-treatment: “We subjected to violence and torments of 3 males and 1 female police officers in the bus, because we have rejected to give our identity cards and mobile phones before we were taken to a hospital. We were subjected to torture as well as threats of violence and rape. One of our friends was sexually harassed by a police officer.”

Detained people are released on the same day.

(06/175) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of HDP, to commemorate June 15-16 Workers Resistance, in front of the Miners Monument in Çankaya district of Ankara on June 16, 2021; and detained 6 people including Vezir Coşkun Parlak, provincial co-chair of HDP, by torture and ill-treatment.

Vezir Coşkun Parlak stated the following on how they were subjected to torture and ill-treatment: “I was choked for 20 seconds and I could not breathe. And I was hit at the head two or three times, someone hit his head to mine. I was being kicked and punched at the same time. They beat me and made me lie down on the ground, someone put their knee on my neck while they were handcuffing me behind my back. We were taken to a hospital but the doctor was worried about the security forces there, so the medical report was not properly written. Although I had several punches and kicks on my head, they did not accept to send me for x-ray.”

06/176) Police Intervention to a Protest in Izmir…

The police intervened the press declaration of the Students’ Collective in front of Presidential Communication Office in Izmir on June 16, 2021, to protest the final ruling in the trial over Soma explosion case; and detained 3 people. The police detained 1 more person who was around the area. Detained people are released on the same day. On May 13, 2014; an explosion in the Soma coal mine in Manisa have killed 301 mine workers.

(06/177) Arrested Journalist in Van…

Journalist Lokman Gezgin is detained, on the grounds of a warrant, in the hospital where he went to get Covid-19 vaccine on June 16, 2021. He is arrested on the same day and sent to Van T Type Prison.

(06/178) Detained HDP Members and Executives in Istanbul…

On June 16, 2021, 9 members of HDP including Serhat Aktumar, central executive board member, in house raids in Istanbul. It is learned that 3 people (Bilal Basutcu, Serdengeçti Öztürk and Metin Yılmaz) are released after statement procedures on the same day and 6 people (Serhat Aktumar, Adem Yıldız, Cevdet Biçer, Enes Ayaz, Ali Kalkan, Eda Bulgan) are still under custody.

HDP Party Assembly member Muhammet Erkis is detained after a general information check at Adana city entrance on June 16, 2021.

(06/180) Soma Case…

On October 2, 2020, the Penal Department No 12 has reversed the sentences for 4 people including Soma Coal Enterprises Inc. Executive Board Chair Can Gürkan, given by the local court on the trial of Soma explosion case. The final hearing of the retrial is held on June 16, 2021. The court sentenced Can Gürkan to 20 years on the charge of ‘causing death and injury on conscious negligence’, and mining engineers Efkan Kurt and Adem Osmanoğlu to 12 years and 6 months each. The court acquitted Haluk Evinç, an executive board member in charge of urgent action plan. On May 13, 2014; an explosion in the Soma coal mine in Manisa have killed 301 mine workers.

(06/181) Ban of Events in Van and Hakkari…

Van Governorate made a declaration on June 17, 2021 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of June 18, 2021. All events are banned in Van for 1684 days since November 21, 2016.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on June 16, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of June 16, 2021. All events are banned in Hakkari for 390 days since June 5, 2020.

(06/182) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 71 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 548 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 16, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 6,221.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 48,950 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,348,249 as of June 16, 2021.
