It has been reported that Seda Baykan, a prisoner who had been on a hunger strike at the Diyarbakır Women’s Prison since April 1, 2026, demanding an end to the human rights violations and solitary confinement she had been subjected to, ended her hunger strike on July 16, 2026, after her demands were met, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Nasuh Mahruki, the former president of the Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), who was detained on July 16, 2026, on the grounds of a social media post related to the July 15 Coup Attempt, was arrested on July 17, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, on the charge of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility.”

Levent Üzümcü, a theater artist detained on July 16, 2026, in the Burhaniye district of Balıkesir as part of an Istanbul-based investigation on the grounds of social media posts, was released the same day by the magistrate’s court to which he was referred, subject to house arrest as a condition of judicial supervision.

Melek Akarmut, who was detained in Mardin on the grounds of a social media post related to the July 15 coup attempt, was arrested on July 17, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred, on the charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information.”

According to news reports on July 16, 2026, two tourists, identified as I.F. and V.F., were detained on the charge of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” after reportedly reading the Bible aloud in the visitor section of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul’s Fatih district. They were subsequently transferred to the Provincial Migration Directorate to be deported.

On July 16, 2026, 12 people were detained during operations conducted in five provinces as part of an investigation targeting the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality.

On July 16, 2026, as part of an investigation into the Istanbul Beykoz Municipality, six people were detained on allegations of “bribery” and “extortion.”

According to news reports on July 16, 2026, it was learned that access to the YouTube channel belonging to the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the X social media account named “Presidential Candidate Office” was restricted pursuant to Article 8/A of Law No. 5651.
