(07/120) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from news coverage of July 17, 2025 that Ömer Cuma Salih, a prisoner in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2 was subjected to physical violence of the wardens. It is also stated in the news reports that prisoners’ belongings were arbitrarily distributed by wardens during ward searches.
(07/121) Prisoners Adjourned to Release by Prison Administration and Observation Board…
It is learned from news coverage of July 16, 2025 that 7 prisoners in Bolu F Type Prison, Deniz Öztürk (7th time), Şahap Elbasan (7th time), Halil Dağ (7th time), Suat Gökalp (5th time), Aydın Yüce (2nd time), Murat Çetinkaya (2nd time), Muhammed İsmail (2nd time) and Metin Dalan (1st time), who completed the execution of their prison sentences, were released. It is learned that the release of 7 prisoners (Deniz Öztürk (for the 7th time), Şahap Elbasan (for the 7th time), Halil Dağ (for the 7th time), Suat Gökalp (for the 5th time), Aydın Yüce (for the 2nd time), Murat Çetinkaya (for the 2nd time), Muhammed İsmail (for the 2nd time) and Metin Dalan (for the 1st time) was adjourned for 3 months by the decision of Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK).
On July 16, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of July 16, 2025 that, the release of Ayhan Bayar, a prisoner in Urfa T Type Prison No 1, who completed the execution of his life sentence, is adjourned for 3 months by a decision of CIGK. Ayhan Bayar’s release was previously adjourned for 1 year.

It is learned from news coverage of July 16, 2025 that Ahmet Emin Eren, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison went on a hunger strike to protest right violations.
(07/123) Investigation Against CHP Chairperson…
It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation on the same day against Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairperson and Manisa MP Özgür Özel, on the charges of ‘publicly insulting a public officer for his duty’ and ‘threatening’, for the speech he made at his party’s rally in Silivri district of Istanbul on July 16, 2025.

The final trial of the case against journalist Sultan Eylem Keleş, who was detained while following news reports, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 72 on July 17, 2025. The court sentenced Sultan Eylem Keleş to 8 months and 10 days for ‘resisting against a public officer’ and acquitted her on the charge of ‘insulting a public officer’.

It is learned from news coverage of July 17, 2025 that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against journalist Fatih Altaylı on the charge of ‘threatening the President’ for his expressions during a social media broadcast.

The first trial of the case against Uğur Ok, a central executive board member of Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), started on July 17, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22. The indictment demands sentence for Uğur Ok on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Uğur Ok and adjourned the trial to September 11, 2025.
Uğur Ok was arrested on January 24, 2025.

The trial of the case against ESP MYK member Okan Danacı started on July 17, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22. The indictment demands sentence for Okan Danacı on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Okan Danacı on condition of a travel ban and adjourned the trial to December 9, 2025.
Okan Danacı was arrested on January 24, 2025.

The first trial of the case against Leyla Can, Istanbul spokesperson of Socialist Women Assemblies (SKM), started on July 17, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22. The indictment demands sentence for Leyla Can on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Leyla Can with a travel ban and adjourned the trial to December 9, 2025.
Leyla Can was arrested on January 24, 2025.

It is learned that the police prevented the press declaration for the 39th anniversary of Human Rights Association (IHD) at Sultanahmet Square in Fatih district of Istanbul on July 17, 2025.
