(12/176) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 1133 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 16, 2019 at 13.30, and at 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 16, 2019, 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Acun Karadağ) and at 18.00 2 people (Mehmet Dersulu and Merve Demirel) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 16, 2019. It is learned detained people were released on the same days they were detained.

(12/177) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest at Bakırköy Square on December 16, 2019 of Nursel Tanrıverdi who rally to regain her job from which she had been dismissed by state of emergency decree, and detained her and 3 other people supporting her (Engin Karataş, Alev Şahin and Mahmut Konuk) by using physical violence. It is learned that 4 people are released after statement procedures.

İbrahim Burak Oğuz, Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayor of Urla district of Izmir, who was called to give official statement through an investigation on December 16, 2019, is arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(12/179) Detained HDP Executive in Diyarbakır…

People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member Zeynep Boğa is detained on December 16, 2019 in Diyarbakır. The reason of detention is unknown.

(12/180) Former CHP MP on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Mehmet Tüm, former CHP MP, on the grounds of insulting Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and MHP chair Devlet Bahçeli, is held at Balıkesir Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on December 16, 2019. The court sentenced Mehmet Tüm to 354 days and converted the sentence to 10.600 Turkish Liras.

(12/181) Investigation Against Women in Izmir…

Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against women who held a dancing demonstration to protest violence against women. It is learned that 25 women are called to give official statement and 9 of them are detained. It is reported that the investigation is grounded on Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code and Law on Demonstrations and Meetings No 2911.

(12/182) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against Ömer Köroğlu, former member of Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors, is held at Penal Department No 9 of Supreme Court on December 16, 2019. The court sentenced defendant to 1 year 10 months and 15 days on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, according to effective remorse law, and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

Siirt Governorate made a declaration on December 16, 2019 and announced curfew in 1 village and 6 hamlets in Baykan district as of 20.00 until further notice. The village and hamlets under curfew are: Yarımca village; Sarıyurt, Topraklı, Toptepe, Kanihiyar, Kasımlı, Bölücek hamlets.

(12/184) Curfew in Şirvan…

Siirt Governorate made a declaration on December 16, 2019 and announced curfew in 5 villages and 2 hamlets in Şirvan district as of 20.00 until further notice. The villages and hamlets under curfew are: Ormanlıbağı, Kömürlü, Bayındır, Gözlüce and Ormanlı villages; Yaygın and Çöğürlü hamlets.

(12/185) Ban of Events in Mardin…

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on December 16, 2019 and announced that, all open events such as demonstrations, press declarations, meetings, sit-ins, opening stands and tents, festivals, concerts, delivering leaflets and so on are banned for 30 days as of December 16, 2019. This is the third time of banning all events in Mardin for 30 days since October 17, 2019.
