The General Directorate of Security announced that a police officer (Yusuf Çağatay), who was injured as a result of the rollover of an armoured vehicle in Syria on July 2, 2023, died on August 16, 2023.
(08/101) Attack on Journalist in Zonguldak…
It is learned that Demirören News Agency Ankara Regional Director Ersin Ercan was attacked by 3 persons in Zonguldak on August 16, 2023 and was injured at several body parts. It is learned that 2 people (H. K. and M. K.) were detained in relation to the attack.
(08/102) Detained HDP Members in Kocaeli…
5 members (Feryat Seven, Mustafa Taşdemir, Zeki Arslan, Edim Oktay and Mehmet Şervan) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who were detained in house raids in Gebze district of Kocaeli on August 15, 2023 were arrested by the court on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ on August 16, 2023.

It is learned that Gökhan Kızıl, one of 20 people who were detained in house raids in Izmir and Manisa through an investigation on the grounds of “violating the Law on Prevention of Financing of Terrorism” on August 15, 2023 was arrested by the court on August 16, 2023. 19 people were released provided that 6 of them will be on judicial control conditions. 5 people who were detained in Balıkesir, Sakarya, Antep and Bitlis through the same investigation were released earlier.
(08/104) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The indictment of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Remzi Akkaya was accepted by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on August 17, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Remzi Akkaya on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The first trial of the case will be held on September 18, 2023.

It is learned that the news reports about the photo shooting at Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.birgun.net and https://www.odatv4.com websites were banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 10 on August 16, 2023.
