(08/148) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers (Enes Gazi Özdemir, Uğurcan Cirnooğlu) died and 3 soldiers were injured in an attack on the Çiçekalan Border Post in Birecik district of Urfa on August 16, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 17, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and YJA-Star militants in Pervari district of Siirt on June 18, 2022.

(08/149) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned that İlker Kızılaltun, a prisoner in Istanbul Silivri Prison, started a hunger strike on August 15, 2022 to demand an end to right violations and the right to a fair trial.

(08/150) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on August 16, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(08/151) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 16, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(08/152) Police Intervention to a Protest in Muğla…

The police intervened in the protest against the hotel construction in the Kızılkum area of İçmeler neighbourhood of Marmaris district in Muğla, despite the court’s cancellation decision, and detained 3 people on August 16, 2022.

(08/153) Detained People in Adana…

It is learned that 10 people who were detained in house raids in Adana on August 13, 2022 on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘committing crime on behalf of an illegal organisation’ are released on the condition that 3 of them (Serhat Yağmur, Abdulkadir Demir and Demhat Sağlam) will be on judicial control conditions, on August 16, 2022.

(08/154) Detained People in Diyarbakır…

It is learned that 40 people who were detained in house raids in Yenişehir, Kayapınar, Silvan and Bismil districts of Diyarbakır on August 13, 2022, on the grounds of ‘planning an action’ and ‘possessing explosive material’, are released on August 16, 2022.

(08/155) Detained People in Izmir…

It is learned that 3 of 9 people (Sibel Aktulum, Leyla Demirkaya, Cengiz Küçükgölköy) who were detained in house raids in Izmir on August 15, 2022 are released on August 16, 2022, while 6 of them are still under custody.

(08/156) Detained People in Manisa…

It is learned that 4 of 9 people (Sevgi Kodaş, Havva Sevilen, Menduh Ektiren, Muhammed Ezver Toplu) who were detained in house raids in Manisa on August 15, 2022 on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, are released on August 16, 2022. It is reported that the detention period for 5 people (Abdulmelik Talayman, Can Karan, Doğan Alpar, Ali Aslan, Ekrem Taş) is extended.

It is learned that 8 people who were detained in house raids in Tarsus and Silifke districts of Mersin on August 16, 2022 on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on the same day.

(08/158) Detained HDP Members in Van…

It is learned that 4 members of HDP Youth Assembly (Nurullah Pekbay, Şiyar Akti, Ferhat Azan and Şerif Sarıbulak) who were detained in İpekyolu district of Van on August 13, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 16, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage that 1 person (M. O.) who went on stage and called out to the audience “Konya, wake up, don’t vote for the Justice and Development Party (AKP)” during the concert held as part of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya on August 16, 2022, was detained and later released.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2022 that, Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the General Directorate of Security, the Gendarmerie General Command, the Ministry of Justice and the National Intelligence Agency Undersecretaries objected to the release of ill prisoner Aysel Tuğluk, based on the court’s decision at the last trial of Kobanê case held on August 6, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2022 that, an investigation was launched against Yusuf Kayaalp, who prepared videos on YouTube, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ by drawing his animation.

(08/162) Attack on Political Party Office in Ankara…

It is learned that unknown person or persons attacked on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) office in Keçiören district of Ankara on August 16, 2022; and took party flags and photographs of Aysel Tuğluk away.

(08/163) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that 48 news reports and the content on the Freedom of Expression Association’s website https://ifade.org.tr/ about the ban of access on the news reports about the former lawyer of the President, are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 9 on August 15, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about the investigation of “manipulative and speculative transactions at the Borsa Istanbul stock market, published on https://www.sozcu.com.tr/, https://www.krttv.com.tr/ and https://www.mirayhaber.com/ are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Ankara Gölbaşı Penal Court of Peace on August 15, 2022.

It is learned that the news report about the appointment and promotion decisions of the Gendarmerie General Command published on https://halktv.com.tr/ is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Samsun Penal Court of Peace No. 3 on August 16, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about the Minister of Culture and Tourism published on https://www.birgun.net/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ and https://www.diken.com.tr/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 9 on August 16, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about the statements of Sedat Peker, published on https://abcgazetesi.com/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ and https://www.gercekgundem.com/ websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Izmir Penal Court of Peace No. 7 on August 16, 2022.

(08/164) Ban of Events in Mardin and Hakkari…

Mardin Governorate’s Office made a declaration on August 16, 2022 and announced that all open-door and indoor meetings, press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on are banned for 15 days as of August 17, 2022. All events are banned in Mardin for 1049 days since October 17, 2019.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on August 16, 2022 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of August 17, 2022. All events are banned in Mardin for 239 days since January 4, 2022.

(08/165) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared on August 17, 2022 that 342 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 143,778 between August 8 and 14, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 100,400 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,671,848 as of August 14, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2022 that, 3 prisoners (Aysel Tuğluk, Figen Yüksekdağ and Laleş Çeliker) in Kocaeli Kandıra High Security Prison No. 1 tested positive for Covid-19.
