(09/163) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 17, 2022 that, 5 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 4, 2022.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (İsmet Aybek) died and 1 soldier was injured in an attack reported to be from Syria towards a border post in Suruç district of Urfa on September 18, 2022.

(09/164) Person Died in Prison…

Barış Keve, a prisoner kept in a solitary cell in Malatya Akçadağ Prison, lost his life on September 18, 2022. It is learned that the prison administration told his family that Barış Keve killed himself.

(09/165) Journalists Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment of the Police in Sivas…

The police prevented DHA reporters Hüsnü Ümit Avcı and Arife Defne Arslan from recording the fire that broke out in a building in Sivas on September 17, 2022. As they continued to record, 2 journalists were subjected to physical violence by the police. It is learned that the moments when the police officers kicked and punched Hüsnü Ümit Avcı were caught on camera. Sivas Governorate’s Office announced that an administrative investigation was launched against the police officer in question.

(09/166) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Bursa…

It is learned that 3 people (Seda Baykan, Dilek Arsu and Mehmet Mustafa Uskar), who were detained in the Dikili district of İzmir on September 17, 2022, on the charge of being related to the attack on the vehicle carrying the correction officers in Bursa on April 20, 2022, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment during detention, and as they were taken to Bursa later. It is reported that 3 people were also subjected to strip search at the Bursa Provincial Security Directorate.

It is learned that the lawyers who went to the Bursa Provincial Security Directorate to meet with the detainees were also prevented for a while and were not allowed to meet them.

The Law Office of the Oppressed made the following statement: “Although we were in front of the Bursa Provincial Security Directorate as of 19.30, we were kept waiting for hours and hours, saying ‘there is a restriction’ and various excuses. As of 22.30, the interlocutor we could barely find showed us the ban decision they had made against our lawyer Sezin Uçar, and they declared that although we were 3 lawyers, they could only accept one person and who would only meet for 5 minutes. We stated that we would not accept this unlawful practice and that we would keep a report, 2 lawyers entered. We were forced to leave all personal belongings before getting into the meeting room. They tried to keep the door open during the meeting, they tried to violate our right to privacy and private conversation. And they forced us to have the meeting in a certain time limitation, the meeting was constantly harassed.”

(09/167) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the protest of ETF Textile workers demanding unpaid severance and bonus payments, in Tuzla district of Istanbul on September 16, 2022; and detained 30 people including DERITEKS union chair Makum Alagöz, by using physical violence. It is learned that the tent of the workers in front of the factory was demolished by the police and municipality police. Detained people are released on the same day.

(09/168) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press statement to demand education in mother tongue, held in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on September 16, 2022 and detained 9 people by using physical violence and handcuffing them behind their backs. It is learned that one person’s nose was broken and 1 person was injured in his arm during intervention. Detained people were released the same day.

Detained people were: Gamze Kaya, Çayan Yılmaz, Dinçer Gün, Metin Burukan, Medet Düzenli, Sinan Polathan, Murat Güven, Ayten Yılmaz, Welat Ekmekçi.

(09/169) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration held to protest detention of the Revolutionary Workers’ Union (Dev İşçi-Sen) chair Mazlum Oruç and the Revolutionary Party member Eser Tüz, in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on September 16, 2022; and detained 5 people using physical violence. Detained people are: The Revolutionary Party chair Gamze Taşçı, the Socialist Party of the Oppressed chair Şahin Tümüklü, the Revolutionary Party members Yeşim Türkel, Erkin Barkın, İslam Şengel.

(09/170) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the justice watch for ill prisoners in Bağcılar district of Istanbul on September 17, 2022, and detained 7 people by using physical violence. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording and 1 journalist was subjected to physical violence of the police. Detained people are released on the same day.

Detained people are: Fince Akman, Cemile Karakaş, Cemile Çiftçi, Kumri Akgül, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Küçükçekmece district co-chair Gülsüm Öztürk, Peace Mothers’ Assembly members Zeynep Çalıhan and Marmara Prisoners’ Families Solidarity Association (MATUHAYDER) co-chair Esin Çelik.

(09/171) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Şırnak…

The gendarmerie used pressurized water and gas bombs to intervene the people trying to march to Cudi Mountain in Şırnak to protest the cutting of the trees on September 17, 2022.

(09/172) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration of the sacked workers of Şişli Municipality, held in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) district office in Istanbul on September 18, 2022 and detained 1 person (Turan Aktaş) who was released on the same day.

(09/173) Detained Municipality Employees in Mersin…

It is learned that 8 employees of the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality who were detained in house raids on September 15, 2022, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are released by the court on September 16, 2022.

(09/174) Detained People in Şırnak…

It is learned that 8 people who were detained in Silopi district of Şırnak on September 15, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on September 16, 2022.

(09/175) Detained People in Hakkari…

It is learned that 10 people are detained in house raids following the military operation in the rural areas of Yüksekova district of Hakkari on September 18, 2022.

(09/176) HDP Executives on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against 10 people including HDP Democratic Local Administrations Board co-spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 10 on September 16, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 10 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence hearings the court decided to release Halide Türkoğlu and adjourned the trial to December 9, 2022.

(09/177) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Yıldız Damla, a member of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations), has been held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 and the court has sentenced Yıldız Damla to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. As the local court’s verdict was overturned by the Penal Department No. 2 of Diyarbakır Regional Court, the retrial is held on September 16, 2022. The court sentenced Yıldız Damla once again to 6 years and 3 months.

(09/178) Dedeoğulları Case…

The trial of the case against 9 people including 2 arrestees, about the racist attack against Dedeoğulları family on May 12, 2021 where 7 family members got wounded, is held at Konya Heavy Penal Court No 8 on September 16, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for the defendants on the charges of ‘intentional injury’, ‘intentional injury with weapons’ and ‘violation of immunity of residence’. The court decided to continue detention of 2 arrestees and refused to arrest other defendants and adjourned the trial to October 28, 2022.

(09/179) Investigation Against Future Party Executive…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 17, 2022 that, an investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, upon the Central Bank’s complaint, about the Future Party spokesperson Serkan Özcan’s expressions in a television program he attended.

(09/180) Cancelled Concerts in Bursa, Konya and Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 17, 2022 that, three concerts of Iranian musician Mohsen Namjoo (in Bursa, on December 3, 2022; in Konya on December 8, 2022 and in Van on December 10, 2022) were cancelled. The Religious and Foundation Workers Union (Diva-Sen) chair Mustafa Çopursuz has announced that they had started a campaign to demand cancellation the concerts.

(09/181) Cancelled Concert in Çorum…

Musician Aleyna Tilki’s concert which was to be held on September 24, 2022, as a part of the Diamond Rice Festival in Osmancık district of Çorum was banned on September 3, 2022. Osmancık Municipality made an announcement on September 17, 2022 and stated that the reason of the cancellation was that “her statements in her interviews and on social media on 17.09.2022 are incompatible with our culture”.

(09/182) Discriminatory Demonstration in Istanbul…

“The Great Family Gathering” which was organized by the Yesevi Alperenler Ocağı Education Culture and Solidarity Association’s Unity in Opinion and Struggle Platform, targeting LGBTI+’s, Istanbul Convention, and the Law No. 6284 on the Protection of Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women, is held at Saraçhane Square in Istanbul on September 18, 2022. The video prepared to call for the demonstration was included in the “public service ads” section of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) website.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 16, 2022, that the press card of journalist Tuğrul Eryılmaz was cancelled by the Presidency Communications Directorate.

(09/184) Removed Banners in Muğla and Erzurum…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 18, 2022 that, the banner reading “Local and National Escobar” hung at the Bodrum district office of the Victory Party in Muğla was removed by the order of the prosecutor, and Mürsel Yüksel, district chair of the party was detained and then was released after statement procedures.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 19, 2022 that, the banner reading “Where is 180 million dollars? You will pay for what you stole. Wake up Erzurum, there is a thief” hung at the provincial office of the Victory Party in Erzurum and at 3 different spots in the city were removed and that the executives of the party were called to make statements.

(09/185) Ban of Events in Hakkari…

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on September 16, 2022 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of September 16, 2022. All events are banned in Mardin for 269 days since January 4, 2022.

(09/186) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On September 18, 2022, 7 people are detained in an alleged attempt to illegally flee to Greece, in a raid to a boat near Menderes district of Izmir. It is reported that 7 people (A. İ., H. R. Ç., N. Ş., N. B., Ö. V. Ç., S. E. and S. A.) who are reported to have finalised sentences, are arrested by the court.
