It is learned from the news coverage of August 17, 2024, that 1 militant died in a clash between the security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Ağrı on August 8, 2024.
(08/138) Attack on MPs in the Parliament…
On August 16, 2024, at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), which convened for an extraordinary session on the Constitutional Court’s ruling on Türkiye Workers’ Party (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay, TİP Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık was subjected to physical violence of Justice and Development Party (AKP) Izmir MP Alpay Özalan. It is learned that Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Kars MP Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit was wounded during the incidents and was taken to hospital for treatment. It is reported in the news that Ahmet Şık and Alpay Özalan were given reprimand penalties after a vote at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2024, that 4 village guards (Adil T., Adem T., Muzaffer T. and Cafer T.) had a quarrel with Yahya K. and his son Deniz K. over pasture in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, and that 4 village guards inflicted physical violence on Yahya K. and Deniz K. with guns and shovels, and that Yahya K. who was seriously wounded due to the attack, was taken to hospital for treatment. It is also reported in the news that 4 village guards were detained and released after statement procedures.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2024, that 32 sheep of a family were killed and 35 sheep were wounded in the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak on August 17, 2024, as a result of an armed attack by village guards in Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak, due to a dispute between village guards and a family in the pasture. It is also reported in the news that the tents of the family on the plateau were burned by the village guards and that village guards Nurettin Aydemir and Abdurrahman Tarhan who were detained in relation to the attack were released after statement procedures at the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2024, that the well water provided to prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison is not suitable for drinking and cleaning, the food given to prisoners is of poor quality, male correction officers sometimes participate in the searches in the wards of female prisoners, and during ward searches, correction officers change the direction of the cameras that see the wards. It is also learned that the items and materials that prisoners need and demand are not available and provided in the canteen, and some books that are not banned or confiscated are not given to prisoners on the grounds that they are ‘objectionable’.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2024, that the food given to prisoners in Malatya Akçadağ T Type Prison is inadequate, prisoners have access to water only 2-3 hours a day and water is given late in the evening.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2024, that prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison cannot benefit from the right to access health care due to a lack of a full-fledged hospital in the Patnos district and difficulties in getting appointments.
It is claimed in the news coverage of August 19, 2024, that, Çetin Tutkun, an ill prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison, was referred to Tekirdağ Doctor İsmail Fehmi Cumalıoğlu City Hospital with complaints of restless leg syndrome, thyroid, gastritis, ulcer, sleep apnea, nerve damage in right and left legs, varicose veins etc. and was given a committee report stating that he ‘does not have any illness’.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 17, 2024, that the release of Naif İşçi, a prisoner in Bitlis Ahlat T Type Prison, who completed his sentence, was postponed for 3 months on August 1, 2024, on the grounds of ‘participating in a hunger strike’ and ‘not being in good behaviour’, by the decision of ‘Prison Administration and Observation Board’.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 19, 2024, that 1 person named B. G. (22, k) was detained in Sivas for her social media posts and was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the charges of ‘insulting the President’, ‘publicly insulting religious values’ and ‘encouraging drug use’.

7 of 15 people who were detained on August 14, 2024, in house raids in the Tarsus and Akdeniz districts of Mersin, on the grounds of social media posts, were arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on August 16, 2024, on the charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. 8 people were released by the criminal peace judgeship they were referred to. The arrestees whose names could be learned are Namık Kocakaya, Cihan Parlak, Nihat Elçik and Kemal Özlü, Adil Mustafa.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 17, 2024, that, 12 people who were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır on August 13, 2024, on the grounds of a police report, were released after statement procedures at the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2024, that 3 people who were arrested in relation to the armed and sound bomb attacks on 2 cafes in the Sur district of Diyarbakır on July 12, 2024, were released after detention review on August 15, 2024.

On August 17, 2024, poet Nevzat Çelik was detained due to a social media post he made about the fires that started in Izmir on August 15, 2024. Nevzat Çelik was released after statement procedures at the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 18, 2024, that in the Ortaklı neighborhood of the Mazıdağı district of Mardin, a civil servant from the registry office was appointed as a trustee by Mazıdağı District Governorate upon the arrest of Mustafa Yılmaz, mukhtar of the neighborhood, for a quarrel he was involved in.

Ministry of National Defence (MSB) announced on August 16, 2024, that 3 people who were allegedly trying to illegally cross to Greece from Edirne were detained due to ‘being a member of an illegal organization’.
