(09/130) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

On September 16, 2025 it is learned from the news coverage of September 16, 2025 that, the books Dad and Duet in Purgatory, written by Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chair of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), were not given to Hüseyin Bağ, a prisoner in Adana Suluca High Security Prison No 1, on the grounds that they may disturb “security, order and discipline of the institution”, although there is no confiscation and banning order.

(09/131) Detained Members and Executives of Political Parties, Associations…

5 of 18 people who were detained through an Izmir based investigation against Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) and Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) on September 12, 2025, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on September 15, 2025. 13 people were released on judicial control conditions.

The names of the arrested people are: Birkan Polat, Yağmur Apa, Hıdır Ali Kılıç, Sezgin Zevkibol and Enes Güleli

5 members of music band Sarinvomit (B.S., Ç.Y., G.K., İ.A.K. and K.R.Ç.) who were detained for their song lyrics and social media posts, are arrested by the criminal court of peace on September 16, 2025 on the charges of ‘insulting religious values’ and ‘provoking and insulting the public to hatred and hostility’.

(09/133) Detained Screenwriter…

Screenwriter Merve Göntem was detained on September 15, 2025. It is stated in the news reports that Merve Göntem was detained within the scope of an investigation initiated due to a comment she made about a character in a TV series she wrote the script for. Merve Göntem is released by the criminal court of peace on judicial control conditions on September 16, 2025.

(09/134) Journalist and Other People on Trial in Batman…

The case against 31 people including journalist Sonya Bayık, who were detained in police intervention against the press declaration of HDP Youth Assembly to protest flooding of Hasankeyf district of Batman on June 12, 2019, is held on Batman Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on September 16, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 13 people on the charge of ‘violating Law on Demonstrations and Marches No 2911’. The court adjourned the trial to December 9, 2025.

(09/135) Investigation Against Journalist…

It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against journalist Fatoş Erdoğan on the grounds of ‘provoking hatred and hostility among people’ through her social media posts, and that she gave her official statement at Istanbul Security Directorate on September 15, 2025.

(09/136) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against T24 reporter Asuman Aranca, for her news reports on the killing of Sinan Ateş, former President of the Grey Wolves Ocakları, continued on September 16, 2025 at Ankara Criminal Court of First Instance No 52. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘violation of confidentiality’. After defenses the court adjourned the trial to October 21, 2025.

(09/137) CHP Executive on Trial in Izmir…

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy Chair Yankı Bağcıoğlu for inviting retired soldiers to a press declaration was held on September 16, 2025 at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 3. The court acquitted Yankı Bağcıoğlu on the charge of ‘opposing the Military Penal Code’.

(09/138) Bar Association Executive on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Istanbul Bar Association Executive Board Member lawyer Fırat Epözdemir continued on September 16, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24. The indictment demands sentence for Fırat Epözdemir on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court ruled to continue the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to November 27, 2025.

Lawyer Fırat Epözdemir was detained on January 23, 2025, was arrested on January 25, 2025 and was released on May 29, 2025.

(09/139) Person on Trial in Izmir…

The final hearing of the case against 1 person named Dilruba Kayserilioğlu, on the grounds of her statements in a street interview in Izmir, in which she criticized the ban on access to the social media platform Instagram, was held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No 62 on September 16, 2025. The court acquitted Dilruba Kayserilioğlu on the charge of ‘insulting the President’.

(09/140) Police Officers on Trial in Adana…

The trial of the case against police officers A.Ü., Ö.G. and S.T., on the allegations of ‘killing with probable intent’ and ‘wounding’, regarding the death of 3.5 years old Tevriz Dora, who was shot in front of his house while he was in the arms of his mother Kamile Dora, during the protests organized in Seyhan district of Adana on October 11, 2015 for October 10, Ankara Massacre, continued on September 16, 2025 before Adana Heavy Penal Court No 4. The court adjourned the trial to February 10, 2026.

(09/141) Detained People in Izmir…

On September 16, 2025, 10 people were detained in house raids in Izmir for using ByLock.
