(09/129) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 15, 2021 that, 3 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Avaşin area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 3, 2021.

(09/130) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the “I Want My Job Back” protest outside the municipality building in Şişli district of Istanbul on September 15, 2021 and detained at least 8 people by using physical violence.

It is learned that 3 people (Türkan Albayrak, Ramazan Çelik, Salih Diknel) were injured in the police intervention.

Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

Some of the detained people are: Türkan Albayrak, Turan Aktaş, Ramazan Çelik, Kahgil Yazar, Merve Demirel, Mehmet Tunçay, Coşkun Öztekin and Salih Diknel.

(09/131) Police Intervention to a Protest in Diyarbakır…

The police used pressurized water and pepper spray to intervene people protesting Dicle Electricity Distribution Company for replacing the counters, in Lice district of Diyarbakır on September 15, 2021. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(09/132) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…

On September 15, 2020, Penal Department No 16 of the Court of Cassation has approved the verdict of Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 for 17 lawyers, all members of Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) and Peoples’ Law Office (HHB); and reversed the verdicts against 2 lawyers (ÇHD chair Selçuk Kozağaçlı and HHB member Barkın Timtik). The court has ruled consolidation of the case against 2 lawyers with another case on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 18. The retrial of the case is held on September 15, 2021.

Selçuk Kozağaçlı and Barkın Timtik attended the trial and made defence declarations. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of 2 lawyers and adjourned the trial to November 17, 2021.

Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37 has sentenced Ayşegül Çağatay, Yağmur Ereren, Didem Baydar Ünsal, Yaprak Türkmen to 3 years and 9 months each and Ahmet Mandacı and Zehra Özdemir to 3 years 1 month and 15 days each, on the charge of ‘knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organisation’. The local court has separated the cases against Oya Aslan and Günay Dağ; and sentenced Özgür Yılmaz and Ebru Timtik to 13 years and 6 months each; Behiç Aşçı and Şükriye Erden to 12 years each; Engin Gökoğlu, Aytaç Ünsal and Süleyman Gökten to 10 years and 6 months each; Aycan Çiçek and Naciye Demir to 9 years each for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Lawyers from the ÇHD and HHB were detained on November 8, 2017 and were arrested on November 13, 2017. The court has released 17 lawyers on September 14, 2018 however, they were arrested again upon prosecutor’s appeal on September 16 and 17, 2018.

(09/133) Person on Trial in Urfa for ‘Insulting the President’…

The first trial of the case against writer Gökhan Yavuzel, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in social media posts, is held at Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on September 15, 2021.

Gökhan Yavuzel did not attend the trial. The court decided to issue a warrant for Gökhan Yavuzel and adjourned the trial to February 22, 2022.

(09/134) Person on Trial in Hatay for Social Media Posts…

The first trial of the case against Kadir Sert, for sharing her sister’s photograph on social media who was an HPG militant, is held at Hatay Heavy Penal Court No 3 on September 15, 2021.

After defence hearings the court decided to sentence Kadir Sert to 1 year and 3 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

It is learned from the news coverage that, Kadir Sert has been charged before for sharing the same photograph and he has been sentenced to 1 year and 3 months which was also not announced.

(09/135) Investigation Against Journalist in Adıyaman…

Journalist Özgür Boğatekin, editor in chief of Gerger Fırat local newspaper has been subjected to an investigation for his social media posts about the racist attack which killed 7 members of a family in Konya. It is learned from the news coverage of September 15, 2021 that Adıyaman Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution on this investigation.

(09/136) Investigation Against People in Batman…

It is learned that Batman Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against 13 people, on the grounds of singing along and dancing to a Kurdish song at the public meeting on August 14, 2021 in Batman. It is reported that these 13 people made their official statements through the investigation at Batman Provincial Security Directorate on September 15, 2021.

(09/137) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on September 15, 2021 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of September 16, 2021. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 1774 days since November 21, 2016.

(09/138) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the YouTube video of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Ali Mahir Başarır and the news reports about the video published on https://tele1.com.tr and https://t24.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace on September 10, 2021.

(09/139) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On September 15, 2021, 8 people are detained in house raids in Adana.

(09/140) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 248 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 28,224 as of September 15, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 61,067 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 6,715,282 as of September 15, 2021.
