(11/138) MP Threatened…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2023, that Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, Kocaeli MP of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP) was threatened by Alaattin Çakıcı, a convicted organized crime leader, through a statement he made on social media, saying “don’t ever say anything out of your depth again.”

(11/139) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2023, that prisoners in Edirne L Type Prison are given water for 1 hour a day.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2023, that PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is kept in İmralı F Type Prison, was banned from seeing his lawyer for 6 months on October 31, 2023, and the Heavy Penal Court rejected the objection of lawyers to the ban.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2023, that prisoners Engin Polat and Sezgin Polat, who were kept in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison, were transferred to Tekirdağ Çorlu High-Security Prison, and prisoners Alper Kürşat Polat, Ahmet Gün and Zekayi Tepe were transferred to a prison in Kocaeli.

It is learned that the appeal made on November 16, 2023, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers to visit him was not responded to.

 (11/141) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Sedef Kabaş, on the grounds of insulting the President in her social media posts, continued on November 16, 2023, at the Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The court adjourned the hearing to February 8, 2024.

(11/142) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against journalist Neşe İdil for her social media posts started on November 16, 2023, at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22. The indictment demands a sentence for Neşe İdil on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. Following the defenses, the court adjourned the trial to February 20, 2024.

(11/143) Academic on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final hearing of the case against Hifzullah Kutum, a research assistant at Elazığ Fırat University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Finance, on the grounds of his social media post “Şoreşa Îlonê hemû Kurdan pîroz be, Bijî Kurdistan” (Happy September Revolution to all Kurds. Long live Kurdistan) was held on November 16, 2023. The court once again acquitted Hifzullah Kutum.

(11/144) TİP Members on Trial in Adana…

The final trial of the case against 7 people, including Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) Seyhan district chair Hakan Çayan, for the slogans and expressions in a press statement about the economic crisis on November 28, 2021, was held at the Adana Penal Court of First Instance No.35 on November 16, 2023. The court sentenced Hakan Çayan to 11 months and 20 days for ‘insulting the President’. The court acquitted 6 people.

(11/145) Banned Events and Protests…

Governorate of Bursa announced on November 15, 2023, that all gatherings, marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, hanging posters, and banners, and similar demonstrations and activities to protest the isolation of the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and banned all vehicles and people participating in these demonstrations from entering the borders of the province for 7 days as of November 16, 2023.

The Diyarbakır Governorate announced on November 15, 2023, that all gatherings, marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, and other similar activities and events as well as the entry and exit of vehicles and persons who will participate in these activities are banned for 4 days as of November 16, 2023.

(11/146) The Hrant Dink Case…

Ogün Samast, who was sentenced to 22 years and 10 months in prison for the assassination of Hrant Dink, the editor-in-chief of Agos newspaper, and whose sentence was upheld by the Court of Cassation, was released on November 15, 2023, under probation “in accordance with good behavior”.

It is learned that the news reports on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://artigercek.com, https://halktv.com.tr websites on the allegations of Hezbollah cadre in the Ministry of National Education are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by the Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 2 on November 14, 2023.

It is learned that a total of 75 content, including 3 columns of the journalist Timur Soykan on https://www.birgun.net, which were published on various websites, were decided to be deleted on the grounds of violation of personal rights by the Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 4 on November 15, 2023.

It is learned that the content of the news article titled “Deletion of news on sanctions imposed on news on bribery ring in the courthouse” which was published on https://ifade.org.tr website, was decided to be deleted on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 4 on November 15, 2023.
