It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2022 that, 4 militants died in clashes between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 27, July 1, August 5, and August 29, 2022.

(11/130) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2022 that, a prisoner named Haşim Erkol in Kayseri Bünyan T Type Prison No. 1 was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers on November 8, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 16, 2022 that, a prisoner named Esra Soyaktaş was transferred from Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison to another prison which could not be learned, under coercion.

The police intervened the press declaration which was made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 15, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The final trial of the case against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former Diyarbakır MP Çağlar Demirel, for her declarations and events she participated in, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on November 15, 2022. The court sentenced Çağlar Demirel to 5 months on the charge of ‘degrading the state of Republic of Turkey and the government’ in accordance with the Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code.

It is learned that the indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) former Istanbul MP Eren Erdem, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in a social media post reading “HUNGER = RTE” was accepted by the court on November 15, 2022 and the first trial of the case will be held on December 28, 2022.

The retrial of the case against the former Editor-in-Chief of Evrensel newspaper, Çağrı Sarı, and former privilege owner Arif Koşar, for the news titled “Police raked the public in Nusaybin: 3 injured” is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on November 15, 2022. The Court of Cassation has overturned the 5 months of prison sentence given by the local court, on the grounds that the criminal elements did not occur. The court adjourned the trial to November 22, 2022.

The trial of the case against co-executive editors Eren Keskin and Hüseyin Aykol and managing editor Reyhan Çapan and journalist Hasan Başak from Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on November 15, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to February 16, 2023.

It is learned that an investigation was launched against Yeni Yaşam newspaper’s executive editor Ferhat Çelik and editor-in-chief Osman Akın, over the news reports about the statements of Sedat Peker; and that Osman Akın made official statement through the investigation at the prosecutor’s office at Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on November 15, 2022.

(11/137) TJA Spokesperson on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Ayşe Gökkan, the spokesperson of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on November 15, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Ayşe Gökkan on the charge of ‘knowingly and willingly aiding an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to January 18, 2023.

(11/138) Association Chair on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The retrial of the case against Yüksel Almas, the co-chair of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations), is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on November 15, 2022. The local court has sentenced Yüksel Almas to 10 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ but Diyarbakır Regional Court has overturned the local court’s verdict. The court sentenced Yüksel Almas to 8 years 1 month and 15 days and decided to release from prison.

Yüksel Almas was detained on February 27, 2021 and was arrested on March 9, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 15, 2022 that the ban of access decision of Aydın Kuşadası Penal Court of Peace regarding the social media platform Tumblr, on the grounds of violation personal rights by on November 9, 2022, was lifted.
