The Ministry of Interior declared on May 16, 2023 that 3 soldiers died and 1 village guard was injured in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Şırnak.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 16, 2023 that, 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 21, 2023.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 16, 2023 that, 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Mardin on May 2, 2023.

It is claimed in the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that that security forces opened fire at random and gas bombs were thrown in the evening hours after the voting period had expired in Cizre district of Şırnak.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 16, 2023 that Twitter imposed an access ban on 4 accounts and 409 posts upon Turkey’s request. In the official statement on the subject, Twitter stated: “We are today sharing an update on our approach in Turkey. We were in negotiation with the Turkish Government throughout last week, who made clear to us Twitter was the only social media service not complying in full with existing court orders. We received what we believed to be a final threat to throttle the service – after several such warnings – and so in order to keep Twitter available over the election weekend, took action on four accounts and 409 Tweets identified by court order. We communicated our concerns about freedom of expression directly”.

The final trial of the case against the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) Diyarbakır MP Cengiz Çandar on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 30 on May 16, 2023. The court sentenced Cengiz Çandar to a judicial fine of 4,500 Turkish Liras.

The final trial of the case against Naşide Toprak, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-mayor of Silvan district of Diyarbakır who was suspended and replaced by a trustee, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on May 16, 2023. The court acquitted Naşide Toprak. Naşide Toprak was suspended by the Ministry of Interior on March 23, 2020 and the sub-governor was appointed as a trustee.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 16, 2023 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against actress Zeynep Beşerler and 1 more person on the grounds of social media posts about the election results.

The first trial of the case against Emine Şenyaşar, on the grounds of insulting İbrahim Yıldız in her statements at the “Justice Watch” protests that she holds in front of the Urfa Courthouse, is held at Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No. 5 on May 16, 2023. Emine Şenyaşar joined the trial and made her defence declaration. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 8, 2023. On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on May 14, 2023 and announced 14 regions (Cudi Mountain, Bestler Dereler, Kurt Mountain, Kureşin, Karaçalı T., Kel Mehmet D., Serin V., 2088 Rk T., Küçük Su Y., Gabar Mountain, Altın Mountain, İncebel Mountain, Oymakaya, Tanin Tanin) in central, Cizre, Silopi, Uludere, Güçlükonak, Beytüşşebap districts as special military security zones between May 16-30, 2023.
