(03/142) Flood in Adıyaman and Urfa…

As a result of the floods that occurred on March 15, 2023, it was learned that 15 people, 2 in Adıyaman and 13 in Urfa, lost their lives.

(03/143) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on March 16, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,701 of them were identified and given to their families, 123 children were in the hospital, 87 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 43 children could not be identified.

It is learned from the news coverage that, the number of contractors who were arrested for their responsibility in the buildings collapsed in Antep and Maraş earthquakes is 282 as of March 16, 2023.

It is claimed in the news coverage of March 16, 2023 that, the phone right of the Furkan Foundation chair Alparslan Kuytul who is kept in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison, was restricted on the grounds that he was the only one speaking during phone conversations.

(03/145) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration held in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul on March 15, 2023, to demand release of 1 journalist and members and executives of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) and the Socialist Women’s Assembly (SKM) who were detained in Istanbul on March 12, 2023, and detained 45 people by using physical violence. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day.

(03/146) Detained Journalist and Members and Executives of ESP, SGDF and SKM in Istanbul…

9 of 11 people including Etkin News Agency reporter Elif Bayburt and members and executives of ESP, SGDF and SKM who were detained in house raids in Istanbul, Adana and Ankara through an Istanbul based investigation on March 12, 2023, are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on March 15, 2023. 2 people (Elif Bayburt and Devrim Barış Yılmaz) were released on judicial control conditions. Arrested people are: Alev Özkiraz, Birkan Polat, Can Papila, Deniz Bahçeci, Okan Danacı, Özge Doğan, Senem Nur Pektaş, Şükran Yaren Tuncer and Tanya Kara.

(03/147) Detained Co-Mayor, City Council Member, Political Party and Association Members and Executives in Van…

On March 16, 2023, 9 people were detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in house raids in Van. Detained people are: Saray district co-mayor Caziye Duman who was replaced by a trustee, İpekyolu district council member Özlem Tuci, the Green Left Party provincial co-spokesperson Günay Uzunay, MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations) Van branch co-chair Hanım Kaya, Serhat Migration Monitoring Association (GÖÇDER) co-chair Gülşen Kurt, Van Association for Prisoners’ Families (TUHAY-DER) co-chair Edibe Babur, Zeynep Kara and Songül Işık.

The trial of the case against Öztürk Türkdoğan, co-chair of the Human Rights Association (HRA), on the grounds of the statement of the HRA on April 24, 2017, regarding the Armenian Genocide, which was to be held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No. 24 on March 16, 2023 is postponed as the chief judge was on leave. The indictment demands sentence for Öztürk Türkdoğan on the charge of ‘publicly degrading the State of the Republic of Turkey’.

(03/149) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Fırat Fıstık and Gerçek Gündem editor-in-chief back then Ozan Buz, upon the complaint of Mehmet Naci İnci the appointed rector of Boğaziçi University, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 46 on March 15, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for journalists on the charge of ‘illegally obtaining or disseminating personal data’. The court adjourned the trial to March 17, 2023.

(03/150) The Case Against Newspaper in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Evrensel newspaper, demanding a compensation of 100,000 Turkish Liras over a news report about the Deputy Minister of Health is held at Istanbul Bakırköy Civil Court of First Instance No. 11 is held on March 15, 2023. The court dismissed the case.

(03/151) HDP Parliamentary Member on Trial…

It is learned that Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 ruled lack of jurisdiction regarding the indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on the allegation of ‘forgery of official documents’ against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır Deputy Semra Güzel, who was stripped of MP status, and ruled that the file should be sent to Ankara on March 15, 2023.

(03/152) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 17 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on March 15, 2023. The defendants and their lawyers did not attend the trial due to the earthquakes. The court decided to continue detention of the arrestees, to issue red notice for Şenay Oruç, Filiz Aslan, Abdülselam Demirkıran and Ferhat Aksu and adjourned the trial to April 12-14, 2023.

(03/153) Co-Mayor on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The retrial of the case against Diyarbakır co-mayor Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, who was suspended and replaced by a trustee by the Ministry of Interior on August 19, 2019, is held on March 15, 2023. Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 has sentenced Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı to 9 years 4 months and 15 days on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ but the Penal Department No. 3 of the Court of Cassation has overturned the verdict. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı and adjourned the trial to June 12, 2023.

(03/154) HDP Member on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against HDP Youth Assembly former member Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 29 on March 15, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence and witness hearings the court decided to continue detention of Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu and adjourned the trial to June 7, 2023. Hüsamettin Tanrıkulu was detained on September 2, 2022 and was arrested by the court on September 6, 2022.
