(03/129) Prisoner Died in Diyarbakır…

Hayri Karaş, an ill prisoner who has been released from Diyarbakır D Type Prison on March 5, 2022 following the report of Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution, lost his life at Diyarbakır Research and Training Hospital on March 15, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 15, 2022 that, Yunus Kıyar, a prisoner in Diyarbakır D Type Prison is transferred to another prison in Yozgat under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 16, 2022 that, political prisoners in Mersin Tarsus T Type Prison are not allowed to use their rights to have video calls.

It is learned that the appeal made on March 15, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to visit him was not responded.

(03/132) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the group marching at the subway station in Çankaya district of Ankara on March 15, 2022, to protest the raise in public transportation fees, and detained 9 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) on March 15, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(03/134) Detained Co-Mayors, Executives of Unions, Associations, Political Parties and Other People in Diyarbakır…

On March 16, 2022, 24 people including suspended co-mayors, executives of political parties, associations and unions, are detained in house raids in Diyarbakır. It is learned that the reason of detention is activities and events held about 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The names of detained people learned so far are: Sur district co-mayor Filiz Buluttekin who was suspended, Bismil district co-mayor Gülşen Özer, Health and Social Services Employees’ Union (SES) Diyarbakır branch secretary Fatma Yıldızhan, Rosa Women’s Association chair Adalet Kaya, Rosa Women’s Association executive Nevin Oyman, Rosa Women’s Association member Fatma Gültekin, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Yenişehir district co-chair Remziye Sızıcı, All Municipal and Local Government Services Workers’ Union (Tümbel-Sen) branch co-chair Nihal Yanık, Education and Science Workers’ Union branch education secretary Hatice Efe, United Transport Worker’s’ Union (BTS) Diyarbakır branch secretary Bahar Uluğ, Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Zekiye Güler, Sakine Karadeniz, Birsen Güneş, Safiye Akdağ, Xezal Yıldırım, Jale Okan, Yıldız Kardaş, Emine Akşahin, Emine Çetiner, Esma Efetürk, Emine Kaya, Evin Yelboğa.

(03/135) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Zekine Türkeri, for her social media posts, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on March 15, 2022. The court sentenced Zekine Türkeri to 1 year 6 months and 22 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and did not defer the announcement of the verdict on the grounds of “no regret”.

The final trial of the case against HDP Van provincial co-chair Handan Karakoyun, for her social media post about Deniz Poyraz who was killed in the racist attack on HDP’s Izmir office, is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 7 on March 15, 2022. The court acquitted Handan Karakoyun.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 15, 2022 that, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against HDP central executive board member Veli Saçılık for his social media posts.

(03/138) Public Prosecutors Dismissed from Duty…

It is learned that 5 public prosecutors (Samsun public prosecutor Zeyni Bakay, Nallıhan public prosecutor Muhammed Demir, Yusufeli public prosecutor Emrah Erdemir, Kızılcahamam public prosecutor Yasil Asiller and Bismil public prosecutor Mehmet Çiçekçi) are dismissed from duty by the decision published in the Official Gazette on March 15, 2022, on the grounds of the investigations opened against them by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK).

(03/139) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 115 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 24,614 as of March 15, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 96,735 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,600,683 as of March 15, 2022.
