It is learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2024, that a village guard named Yakup Karadeniz committed suicide in the boiler room of prosecutor’s lodgings in Şemdinli district of Hatay.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2024, that open visit to Izmir Menemen T Type Prison on January 10, 2024 was interrupted due to the intervention of correction officers. Mustafa Yalçın, one of the relatives of prisoners, stated the following on the interruption of the visit: “At the entrance of the prison, we were warned by the correction officers that ‘hugging is forbidden’. We did not say anything. Then we went inside and sat down. This time they warned us ‘do not sit next to each other’. So we sat across from each other, and when we were told ‘don’t look at each other’, we reacted to their attitude. Then they started a loud conversation with us. One of our friends went to meet with the prison director to explain the situation, but we couldn’t reach a conclusion. So we took a report, protested the situation with applause and left.”

It is learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2024, that a student at Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Anadolu High School in Didim district of Aydın was subjected to sexist and discriminatory remarks of the teacher after she mentioned feminism and LGBTI+’s in her presentation and was not allowed to finish her presentation. It is reported that another teacher teaching “The Life of our Prophet” at the same school made discriminatory remarks against Alevi citizens.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 13, 2024, that 5 members of Grup Yorum, who participated in Dersim Promotion Days events in Yenikapı square in Fatih district of Istanbul to give a concert, were detained after being subjected to torture and ill-treatment. Grup Yorum members were released the same day after statement procedures. The names of the detainees are: Bergün Varan, Boran Hurustan, Dilan Poyraz, Ekimcan Yıldırım and Fırat Kaya.

The Ministry of Interior announced on January 16, 2024, that a total of 165 people, including Dilek Başalan, Chair of Women’s Time Association, members and executives of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti), Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) activists and Peace Mothers, were detained on charges of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ in operations conducted in 28 provinces.
