(02/202) Police Interventions to Protests in Istanbul and Diyarbakır…
The police prevented the group including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP’s marching from Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) office to Şişhane Square in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, to participate in the press declaration for the 22th year of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s being brought to Turkey. It is learned that the press declaration was held in front of HDK office.
The march of “Stop isolation, justice for life” which was to be held for the same cause in Diyarbakır was prevented by the police. It is learned that the group including HDP MP’s and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chair Saliha Aydeniz held a sit-in protest.

3 of 8 people (Murat Kılıç, Tayfun Güney and Mehmet Emin Salman) who were detained in Batman on February 14, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 15, 2021. Gülistan Sönük, HDP co-mayor of Bekirhan town and city council members Şükran Çotak, İdris Yalçın, Suat Öztekin who were also detained, were released after statement procedures on February 14, 2021. It is learned that 1 person (Seyid Ali Doğan) is still under custody.

On February 15, 2021, 7 people including Hasret Arslan and Haydar Çağlı city council members from HDP; Mehmet Kayısı, provincial council member from HDP; Tamer Kılınç, provincial executive of HDP and Abdulgaffur Kubilay, Kurtalan district executive of HDP are detained in house raids in Siirt.

34 of 45 people who were detained through an Antep based investigation against former members and executives of Rojava Solidarity Association which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), Mezopotamya Association for Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives (MEYA-DER), Mezopotamya Cultural Center (MKM) and Kurdî-Der, are released on February 15, 2021. 11 people were released on February 13 and 14, 2021.

The final trial of the case against Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Chair and HRFT executive board member Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, for a social media post about Gezi Park protests in 2013, on the grounds of insulting the Prime Minister back then, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 42 on February 16, 2021.
The court sentenced Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı to pay a fine of 7,080 Turkish Liras for insulting a public official.

The final trial of the case against executive editor Zana Kaya, managing editor İnan Kızılkaya, grant holder Kemal Sancılı and writer Eren Keskin of Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 on February 15, 2021. The case was opened against 9 people and on February 14, 2020, the court has separated the case against these 4 people.
After defence hearings the court sentenced Eren Keskin, İnan Kızılkaya and Kemal Sancılı to 6 years and 3 months each on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and Zana Kaya to 2 years and 1 month on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The final trial of the case against Sabri Uzun, former chief of Intelligence Department of Security Directorate, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 31 on February 15, 2021. The court sentenced Sabri Uzun to 11 months and 20 days on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ and postponed the sentence.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 15, 2021 that, 2 people (Gürbüz Sevilay and Tamer Avcı) are detained in Uzbekistan and brought to Turkey by the National Intelligence Organisation.
29 of 53 people who were detained through a Balıkesir based investigational re arrested by the court while 24 people are released on judicial control conditions on February 15, 2021.
(02/227) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 91 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 660 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on February 15, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 7,106.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 27,562 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,594,128 as of February 15, 2021.
It is learned from the news coverage of February 15, 2021 that, 22 prisoners in B-6 ward of Samsun T Type Prison tested positive for Covid-19 and 4 prisoners in critical conditions are admitted to Samsun Research and Training Hospital.
