(12/157) Prisoner Died in Diyarbakır…

Halil Güneş, an ill prisoner, lost his life in Diyarbakır F Type Prison No 2 on December 15, 2021. It is stated in the news reports that Halil Güneş had cancer but not given his medication on a regular basis and was kept in a solitary cell. His sister Gül Güneş stated the following to the press: “He had inflammatory wounds on his body. So he was taken to hospital for medical dressing, and then he was taken under quarantine. The prison administration told us not to come for open visit”.

It is reported that the preliminary autopsy report of Diyarbakır Forensic Medicine Institution was not given to the lawyers.

(12/158) Prisoner Died in Izmir…

It is learned that the preliminary autopsy report of Bayraklı Forensic Medicine Institution for Abdülrezzak Şuyur who had lost his life in Izmir Şakran T Type Prison on December 14, 2021, states the condition as “suspicious death” and the reason of death will be stated in the detailed autopsy report.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 15, 2021 that 8 prisoners in Konya Ereğli T Type Prison were said “Your lawyers are here” and were taken into a room on October 27, 2021 where they have been interrogated by Anti-Terror Department officers and intelligence officers of Konya Provincial Gendarmerie Command.

(12/160) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 15, 2021 that, Bilal Akbaş, an ill prisoner in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison was not referred to hospitals for 7 months since he rejects in-mouth search. It is also stated in the news reports that other ill prisoners were not referred to hospitals for the same reason.

(12/161) Detained People in Şırnak…

8 of 30 people who were detained in Şırnak on December 11, 2021, are arrested by the court on December 15, 2021; 2 people are released on judicial control conditions. It is learned that 12 people are still under custody. 2 people (Emin Kalkan and Abdullah Kaçmaz) have been arrested through the investigation while 6 people were released on judicial control conditions.

(12/162) The Case Against Ankara Bar Association Chair and Executives…

The first trial of the case against Erinç Sağkan, current chair of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and former chair of Ankara Bar Association, Kemal Koranel, current chair of Ankara Bar Association and other executive board members; on the grounds of ‘degrading religious values of a section of the public’ in their press declaration about discriminatory expressions of Ali Erbaş, the President of Religious Affairs, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 16 on December 15, 2021.

9 of the lawyers attended the trial. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to March 9, 2022.

(12/163) The Case Against Former HDP MP…

The trial of the case against Leyla Güven, HDP’s former Hakkari MP who has been stripped of MP status and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ in a speech, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on December 15, 2021. Leyla Güven joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. Leyla Güven’s lawyers demanded recusation as the “court board has lost impartiality”. The court adjourned the trial to February 9, 2022.

(12/164) Co-Mayors on Trial in Şırnak…

The first trial of the case against Adalet Fidan and Süleyman Savluk, co-mayors of Silopi district of Şırnak, is held at Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No 2 on December 15, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for co-mayors on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to march 14, 2022.

(12/165) DBP Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Celal Yoldaş, provincial executive of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on December 15, 2021.

After defence hearings the court sentenced Celal Yoldaş to 9 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and to 1 year and 6 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

Celal Yoldaş was detained through the investigation against Rosa Women’s Association on May 22, 2020, and was arrested on May 24, 2020. He was released from prison on December 2, 2020.

(01/166) HDP Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Vedat Dağ, a press staff of HDP, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on December 15, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Vedat Dağ, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The court adjourned the trial to March 16, 2021.

(12/167) Ban of Event in Tunceli…

It is learned that Tunceli Governorate’s Office did not permit for the meeting of the Labour and Democracy Platform in Tunceli on December 17, 2021; on the grounds of ban of events in the city and precautions for Covid-19 pandemic.

(12/168) Administrative Fine for TV Channels…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 15, 2021 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued digital platform Exxen with administrative fine on the grounds that the episode 44 of the show “Konuşanlar” is ‘inappropriate for Turkish family structure and morality’; and issued digital platform Netflix with administrative fine on the grounds that the film “Ortaya Karışık İlişkiler” is ‘contrary to the moral values of the society and general morality’; and ruled that these productions will discarded from the catalogue of platforms.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 15, 2021 that, RTUK issued Tele 1, Halk TV, Fox TV and Dmax channels with administrative fine.

(12/169) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 193 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 19,872 as of December 15, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 79,696 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 9,100,324 as of December 15, 2021.
