(08/095) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 16, 2023 that, former Diyarbakır mayor Gültan Kışanak, who participated in her sister’s funeral with a permission from Kocaeli Kandıra Prison, was taken to Elazığ Prison after the funeral and was kept in solitary in a dirty ward there. It is also stated in the news reports that the lawyers went to Elazığ Prison to see her were made 1 and half an hour wait. It is reported that Gültan Kışanak was taken to Sivas with prison shuttle which took 7 hours on the grounds of “no flight” although she has paid for the travel costs in advance, and was taken on a plane in Sivas.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 15, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.
(08/097) Detained People in Bitlis…
It is learned that 5 of 10 people who were detained in house raids in Söğütlü village of Tatvan district of Bitlis during an operation of the security forces on August 10, 2023 were arrested by the court on August 15, 2023. 5 people (Serkan İpek, Necip Tedbirli, Heybet Çelik, Veli Çelik and Hikmet Tedbirli) were released on judicial control conditions. The names of arrested people learned so far are: Mustafa Tedbirli, Garip İpek, Kerem Avras.
(08/098) Detained HDP Members in Kocaeli…
On August 15, 2023, 4 members (Feryat Seven, Şervan Başdemir, Mustafa Taşdemir and 1 more person) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) were detained in house raids in Gebze district of Kocaeli. The reason for detention could not be learned.
(08/099) Imprisoned Journalist…
Journalist Barış Pehlivan was imprisoned on August 15, 2023, due to the sentence he received for a news report he made. It is learned that Barış Pehlivan, whose probation request was not answered and exempted from the regulation that prevents convicts on Covid-19 leave from re-entering the prison, will be kept in an open prison for 8 months.
