The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Atakan Çakır) died due to a weapon accident during mine search activity in Şemdinli district of Hakkari on August 15, 2022.

It is learned that one person (Yusuf Uluğ, 18) was injured as a result of the explosion of an object while he was grazing his sheep in the Hêvrês (Bölükyazı) village of the central district of Bitlis on August 14, 2022 and he was taken to Bitlis State Hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2022 that, 10 more prisoners joined the hunger strike of 10 prisoners demanding an end to right violations in Urfa T Type Closed Prison No 1 which started on August 7, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2022 that Gökhan Yıldırım, who is on hunger strike in Tekirdağ F Type Prison No. 1 since December 25, 2021 was referred to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) on August 12, 2022 to determine his health status. In the report of the ATK, it is stated that Gökhan Yıldırım “must be followed up and treated under hospital conditions, and if his condition changes, he can be re-evaluated by sending a report showing his latest status”. It is learned that the Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office rejected the application for a postponement of the execution of Gökhan Yıldırım based on the ATK report and decided to keep Gökhan Yıldırım in Tekirdağ City Hospital.

The police intervened in the protest of the construction workers of the Financial Center in the Ataşehir district of Istanbul, held on the Bosporus Bridge on August 14, 2022, regarding the working conditions, and detained 4 people. Detained people are released after statement procedures.

Police intervened in the sit-n protest of gas station owners, in front of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) in Ankara on August 15, 2022 to protest the distribution companies that issued fake fuel bills. It is learned that no one was detained during the intervention, and one person had a heart attack.

Mezopotamya News Agency editor-in-chief Diren Yurtsever is detained at the Sabihan Gökçen Airport in Istanbul on August 15, 2022, on the grounds of a detention warrant. Diren Yurtsever is released on August 16, 2022.

HDP’s central district co-chair Hasan Özek who was detained in Hakkari on August 13, 2022, is arrested by the court on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ on August 15, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2022 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against the Republican People’s Partee (CHP Istanbul chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ by her expressions “We will send a dictator from this country through democracy”, she used at the meeting of the provincial chairs of the youth branches of CHP on August 12, 2022.

It is learned that 9 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through an Istanbul based investigation on August 16, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared on August 16, 2022 that 380 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 232,253 between August 1 and 7, 2022.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 100,058 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 16,528,070 as of August 7, 2022.
