(01/156) Asylum Seekers Subjected to Racist Attack in Izmir…
It is learned that a group of Syrian asylum seekers were subjected to racist attack of a group of at least 20 people in Bayraklı district of Izmir on January 17, 2020 and that 3 of them were injured while one of them is in severe condition. It is reported that Muhammed Savaş, who had a brain haemorrhage is being treated under intensive care unit.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2020 that, Şakir Can, a member of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly, was threatened by the police on January 13, 2021 in Batman. It is learned that, after the police intervention to Serê Salê (new year’s) celebration in Batman, the special operations police officers said to him “Your life would end with one shot. What you get will not be a detention next time”.
(01/158) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of January 17, 2021 that, 3 prisoners (Deniz Şah, Mehmet Dersulu and İlhan Kaya) in Bolu F Type Prison were subjected to physical violence of the correction officers. It is learned that Mehmet Dersulu and İlhan Kaya were injured due to violence. It is also reported that Deniz Şah was taken to another ward by correction officers using physical violence on January 14, 2021. It is also stated in the news reports that these prisoners were not taken to prison infirmary although they demanded so in order to get a medical report evidencing the violence.
It is learned from the news coverage of January 16, 2021 that, in Afyon T Type Prison No 1, there are 23 prisoners kept in a ward for 10 people.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 16, 2021 that, Resul Kocatürk, an ill prisoner in Kırıkkale F Type Prison, was not going through medical checks for 8 months, on the grounds of Covid-19 pandemic.
(01/160) Detained ESP Members…
On January 14, 2021, 48 people including co-chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), 1 journalist and executives and members of ESP and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) members were detained through an Izmir based investigation against ESP. 5 people are arrested by the court on January 18, 2021. 5 people are released on house confinement and 37 people are released on judicial control conditions. 1 person (Meliha Kalaycı) was released after statement procedures on the same day.
Arrested people are: ESP provincial co-chair Ezgi Bahçeci, HDP Party Assembly member Sıtkı Güngör, ESP executive Kerim Altınmakas, Shipbuilding and Maritime Transportation, Warehouse and Storage Workers’ Union (Limter-İş) organising expert Deniz Bakır and Gülşah Padak.
People released on house confinement are: ESP co-chair lawyer Özlem Gümüştaş, Etkin News Agency reporter Pınar Gayıp, Socialist Women’s Assembly (SKM) executive board member Satiye Ok, Alev Özkiraz and Ceren Çoban.
People released on judicial control conditions are: Limter-İş deputy chair Levent Akhan, HDP Istanbul organisation co-spokesperson Pınar Türk, Hakan Kafadar, Rıdvan Coşkun, Burak Yılmaz, Seyit Cem Çakmak, Atilla Dalkılıç, Yener Aygün, Nihat Ünal, Begüm Ateş, Nazlı Masatçı, Medine Çam, Mehmet Küçükgünaydın, Yunus Kara, Ensar Albağlar, Yener Ayhan, Nihat Ünal, Emrah Alkan, Nevzat Alkan, Tuncay Kılıç, Avukat Kamil Ağaoğlu, İsmail Özer, Eda Can Demir, Deniz Çanak, Deniz Dilli, Zeynel Sabaz, Kutay Soybil, Akgün Irgat, Cihan Taşkın, Efe Özcan, Güldem Hantaş, Mehmet Fatih Bilben, Rezzan Mintaş, Erol, Talat Bingöl, Ozan Özgenler, Nesrin Salduz and Engin Ateş.

On January 16, 2021, 1 person (Abdi Gümüş) is detained through an Urfa based investigation in a house raid in Mersin. It is learned that Abdi Gümüş will be taken to Urfa.
(01/162) People on Trial in Bitlis…
The final trial of the case against 24 people for participating in “No to violence against women” march, organized by HDP in Bitlis on January 6, 2016; is held at Bitlis Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on January 15, 2021. Former Tatvan district co-mayor Abdullah Ok, former Mutki district co-mayor Esra Gümüş, former provincial chair of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Enver Barin are among these 24 people.
The court sentenced 24 people to 1 year and 3 months each on the charge of ‘participating in unlawful assembly or demonstrations unarmed and resisting despite the warning’ and deterred the announcement of the verdict.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2021 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated in investigation on the charge of ‘provoking hatred and hostility among people’ against TV presenter Öykü Serter, for her social media posts about the earthquake that hit Izmir on October 30, 2020.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on January 15, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations (except for public institutions), concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of January 6, 2021.

On January 15, 2021, 20 people are detained in operations covering 8 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.
11 of 13 people who were detained in Muğla in an alleged attempt to illegally flee to abroad, are arrested by the court on January 17, 2021. 1 person is released on house confinement while 1 person is still under custody.

The Ministry of Health declared that 169 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 921 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on January 15, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 8,314.
The Ministry of Health declared that 168 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 902 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on January 16, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 7,550.
The Ministry of Health declared that 165 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 803 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on January 17, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 6,436.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 23,997 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,387,101 as of January 17, 2021.
It is learned that 2 health workers (medical secretary Genç Özkan in Adana and doctor Erhan Sirgeligil in Antalya) lost their lives from Covid-19 on January 15, 2021.
It is learned that 3 health workers (pharmacy technician Mustafa Doğan in Mersin, health officer Yusuf Pampal in Osmaniye, and nurse Ayşegül Onurkal in Nevşehir) lost their lives from Covid-19 on January 16, 2021.
It is learned that doctor Mehmet Yaşar Karabacak in Mersin lost his life from Covid-19 on January 17, 2021.
It is learned from the news coverage of January 15, 2021 that, 16 prisoners in the same ward in Karabük T Type Prison tested positive for Covid-19.
