It is learned from the news coverage of October 14, 2021 that prisoners in Kandıra F Type Prison No 1 were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the correction officers threatening them saying “You are done now. You will die here” during ward searches.

It is learned that Abdulkadir Baybars who is kept in a solitary cell in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison and who is on hunger strike since September 23, 2021 ended the strike on October 14, 2021.

It is learned that the appeal made on October 14, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.

On October 14, 2021, 5 members of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) who were distributing the leaflet “Criminal Record Holding: A Story of Illıcit Money-Politics-Jurisdiction” of the party in front of Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences are detained by the police.

The final trial of the case against 22 members and executives of the Confederation of Public Employees’ Union (KESK), on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 12 on October 14, 2021. The court acquitted 22 people.
22 members and executives of KESK have been arrested on May 28, 2009, and the local court has sentenced them on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation’. The Constitutional Court has reversed the local court’s verdict in 2020, ordering a retrial.

The final trial of the case against Doğan Ergün, executive editor of Ileri Haber news portal, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ in a news report in 2014, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No 45 on October 14, 2021. The court sentenced Doğan Ergün to 11 months and 20 days and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

The final trial of the case against Bitlis Association of Journalists and Bitlis News executive editor Sinan Aygül, is held at Bitlis Heavy Penal Court No 2 on October 14, 2021. The court sentenced Sinan Aygül to a penalty fine of 16,660 Turkish Liras on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The trial of the case against 13 people including journalist Sonya Bayık is held at Batman Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on October 14, 2021. 13 people have been detained in the police intervention against the press declaration for Hasankeyf ancient towns which are in danger of being under water due to a dam construction, organized by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly on June 12, 20219.
The indictment demands sentence for 13 people on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to February 10, 2022.

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Mehmet Aslan is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on October 14, 2021. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 16, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 14, 2021 that, 4 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 4 parliamentary members are submitted to Grand National Assembly.
Parliamentary members subjected to proceedings are:
- HDP Diyarbakır MP Garo Paylan,
- HDP Şırnak MP Hüseyin Kaçmaz,
- The Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) İstanbul MP Ahmet Şık,
- CHP Mersin MP Ali Mahir Başarır.

Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on October 14, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of October 15, 2021. All events are banned in Hakkari for 510 days since June 5, 2020.

It is learned that the news report about Çemişgezek Sub-governor published on https://birgün.com.tr and the social media posts about it are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Tunceli Çemişgezek Penal Court of Peace on October 13, 2021.

On October 14, 2021, 15 people are detained in operations covering 3 cities through a Balıkesir based investigation and 9 people are detained in Bursa.
(10/172) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 203 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 30,709 as of October 14, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 67,470 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 7,532,455 as of October 14, 2021.
