(11/183) The Child was Hit by a Police Car in Bolu…

It is learned that a police car chasing another car for disobeying stop warning hit a child, Ö.F.Y. (13, m) in Gerede district of Bolu on November 14, 2018. It is claimed in the news reports that the child who was taken to Abant İzzet Baysal Medicine Faculty is at brain death status.

It is reported that Ö.F.Y.’s mother Sevgi Yıldırım got also injured with no life-critical situation.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 14, 2018 that 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Şırnak on November 1, 2018.

(11/185) The Number of People in Prisons…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 14, 2018 that the parliamentary question of Republican People’s Party (CHP) Mersin MP Alpay Antmen addressed to Presidency and the Ministry of Justice, is responded by Turkish Presidency Center of Communications. It is stated that total capacity of prisons in Turkey is 211.766 whereas the number of prisoners is 259.327 including 10.245 women and 3.013 children. It is also reported that the number of convicted people is 201.120 and the number of arrested people is 58.207; and that 743 children younger than 6 are in prisons with their mothers.

(11/186) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 736 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 13, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on November 14, 2018, 3 people (Mahmut Konuk, Derviş Lermi and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 3 people (Nazan Bozkurt, Derviş Lermi and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 6 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on November 14, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(11/187) Police Intervention Against a Protest in Istanbul…

Türkan Albayrak, who was dismissed from her job at Sarıyer district Health Department, on the grounds of ‘personnel security investigation’ and ‘archive search’, on August 3, 2018; made a press declaration to regain her job on November 14, 2018 and attempted for a sit-in protest in front of Health Department. The police intervened the sit-in and detained Türkan Albayrak. It is learned that Türkan Albayrak was released the same day. It is the 45th time of detention of Türkan Albayrak.

(11/188) Police Intervention Against the Protest of “Don’t Close Down my Hospital Platform” in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of “Don’t Close Down my Hospital” in front of Ankara Numune Hospital to protest discarding of hospitals at the city center and detained 3 people on November 14, 2018. It is learned that Bayazıt İlhan, former central council chair of Turkish Medical Association was detained and taken to the police car from where he was released after a while; and other detainees Ersat Akyazılı, executive board member of the Chamber of Mining Engineers and Community Houses member Hadi Sinan İskit were released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office.

(11/189) EMEP Members Were Subjected to Physical Violence…

It is learned that Labour Party (EMEP) members who were distributing leaflets in front of BMC factory in Bornova district of İzmir were subjected to physical violence by a group. The leaflets distributed were criticising Turkish Metal Workers’ Union (Türk Metal) in terms of policies on financial crisis and it is alleged that the attacking group consists of union managers. It is reported that EMEP members will make an official complaint.

(11/190) SGDF Members Detained in Ankara…

3 members of Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) are detained in house raids in Ankara on November 13, 2018. The names of detainees are: Gizem Altunöz, Cem Eren Aslan and Sedat Polat.

(11/191) Local Administrator Detained in Diyarbakır…

4 people including Yalımlı neighbourhood’s local administrator Seyfettin Demir are detained in house raids in Lice district of Diyarbakır on November 14, 2018. The reason for detention is unknown. The names of detainees are: Seyfettin Demir, Nezir Gümüş, Zeki Gümüş, Zeki Menekşe.

(11/192) The Case Against Former Co-chair of HDP…

The case against Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of People’s Democratic Party (HDP), on the grounds of “publicly degrading Turkish Nation, state of the Turkish Republic, and the bodies of the state” in her statement taken under custody, is held on November 13, 2018 on Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 13. The court decided to send a writ for consolidating the case with the one on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 9 and adjourned the trial to January 22, 2019.

(11/193) The Case Against Former Co-chair of HDP…

The case against Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chair of HDP, on the grounds of “insulting former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in a speech he made in Diyarbakır in 2015”, is held on November 14, 2018 on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 47. Selahattin Demirtaş joined the trial via sound and vision system from Edirne F Type Prison. The court stated that the authorized court is Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2 where proceedings on crimes committed via media are conducted and declared lack of jurisdiction.

The cases opened on courts in Ankara and Diyarbakır for the same speech has been consolidated by the Supreme Court on with the case on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 47.

(11/194) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The indictment of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Kibriye Evren is accepted by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5.

The indictment demands Kibriye Evren to be sentenced for ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The first hearing will be held on December 6, 2018.

Kibriye Evren was arrested after being detained through a Diyarbakır based investigation on October 9, 2018.

(11/195) University Students on Trial for Whistling a Kurdish Anthem in Diyarbakır…

The case against 12 students of Dicle University (Muhammed Çetintaş, Mazlum Büksel, Semra Özmaskan, Hüseyin Kaya, Çiğdem Akar, Dilan Dağ, Ahmet Tümer, Zeynep Özçelik, Mazlum Tozan, Nuda Doğan, Suat Mustafa Şenci and Nazdar Gökçe), for whistling Kurdish anthem “Çerxa Şoreşe”, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 is held on November 14, 2018.

The indictment demands imprisonment for a term of 8 years to 27 years and 6 months for ‘committing an offence on behalf of an organisation, although not being a member of that organisation’, ‘preventing a public officer from performing duty’, ‘opposing to Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’.

The court adjourned the trial after defence hearings.

(11/196) Diyarbakır JITEM / Musa Anter Case…

The consolidated case on Musa Anter’s killing in Diyarbakır in 1992 and activities of JITEM (Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit) in Diyarbakır is held on November 14, 2018 on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 6. The case known as “JITEM Main Case” on Diyarbakır Penal Court No 1 and the case of Musa Anter’s killing has been consolidated by the Supreme Court’s decision on January 29, 2016.

“I know that Mahmut Yıldırım, code-named Yeşil is alive, I received information that he has health problems”, said İsmail Hakkı Pekin, former chair of Department of Intelligence of Turkish General Staff, who was heard as witness. Serdar Ekingen was also another witness heard at this trial.

The court accepted the demand of lawyers representing the Anter family and decided to “explore whether Mahmut Yıldırım, code-named Yeşil is under witness protection program” and adjourned the trial to March 20, 2019.

(11/197) German Citizen Singer on Trial in Edirne…

The final trial of the case against Saide İnaç (Hozan Cane), a German citizen singer, on Edirne Heavy Penal Court No 3, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’ and ‘insulting Atatürk’ is held on November 14, 2018. Saide İnaç joint the trial via sound and vision system. The court sentenced Saide İnaç to 6 years and 3 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

Saide İnaç was detained on June 23, 2018 in Edirne where she came to support HDP’s campaign for elections on June 24, 2018; she was arrested on June 26, 2018 on the grounds of her social media posts.

(11/198) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

14 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations in Çanakkale and 2 people are detained in house raids in Ankara on November 14, 2018.

10 of 29 members of Turhal Yeşilırmak Volunteers Association who were detained in Tokat are arrested by the court on November 14, 2018. 14 people are released and 5 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(11/199) Journalist on Trial in Uşak…

The final trial of the case against Ali Ünal, former editorial author of Zaman newspaper is held on November 14, 2018 on Uşak Heavy Penal Court No 2. The court sentenced Ali Ünal to 19 years and 6 months for ‘establishing and leading an illegal organisation’.

Ali Ünal was arrested after being detained through an Uşak based investigation on August 11, 2016.

(11/200) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 67 people including 10 arrestees through an investigation on Turkish Air Force is held on November 14, 2018 on Eskişehir Heavy Penal Court No 4. The court sentenced 56 defendants to jail penalties for a term of 2 years and 1 month to 10 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court acquitted 9 defendants and separated the cases of 2 fugitive defendants.

The final trial of the case against former prosecutor Oğuzhan Kır who was dismissed by a state of emergency decree is held on November 14, 2018 on Gaziantep Heavy Penal Court No 9. The court sentenced the defendant to 9 years 4 months and 15 days for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against 2 people on Adana Heavy Penal Court No 11 is held on November 14, 2018. The court sentenced 1 defendant to 8 years and 3 months and 1 defendant to 9 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(11/201) Special Security Zone in Elazığ…

Elazığ Governorate made a declaration on November 14, 2018 and announced that 15 areas with given coordinates in Alacakaya, Arıcak, Karakoçan and Palu districts are special security zone as of November 15, until November 29, 2018.
