(03/120) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened the march of the Socialist Solidarity Platform (SODAP) to protest the price raises, and detained at least 10 people by using physical violence on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on March 14, 2022. It is stated in the news reports that the detainees were taken to the courtyard of a nearby mosque and were subjected torture and ill-treatment there. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on March 14, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

On March 14, 2022, Sinem Çelebi, central executive member of the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) and 2 members are detained in Eskişehir. The reason of detention is unknown.
(03/123) Co-Mayors on Trial in Şırnak…
The trial of the case against Adalet Fidan and Süleyman Şavluk, co-mayors of Silopi district is held at Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 14, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 2 co-mayors on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 6, 2022.

The first trial of the case against Serhat Arpa, for stabbing and heavily injuring two trans women on November 20, 2021, is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 14 on March 14, 2022. After defence hearings the court rejected intervention demands of the Human Rights Association (IHD) and Young LGBTI+ Association. The court decided to make a criminal complaint against Yusuf Sürgü as the suspected accomplice and adjourned the trial to May 11, 2022.

Van Governorate made a declaration on March 14, 2022 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of March 15, 2022. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 1954 days since November 21, 2016.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 14, 2022 that, following the ban on official announcements and advertisements issued on Evrensel newspaper by the Press Advertisement Agency (BİK) on September 18, 2019; no announcement has been made by official institutions for 910 days. It was also stated in the news reports that the BİK did not restart the official announcement process, on the grounds of Covid-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Health declared that 133 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 24,404 as of March 14, 2022.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 96,620 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,576,069 as of March 14, 2022.
