It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2023 that personal belongings of prisoners were harmed during ward searches in Kırşehir S Type Prison and some of them were seized.

Eskişehir Governorate’s Office made a declaration on June 14, 2023 and banned all meetings and attempts of meetings, press declarations, marches, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, distributing leaflets, holding banners, protests, festivals and so on as part of Pride Month for 30 days as of June 14, 2023.
It is learned from the news coverage of June 14, 2023 that, the “Struggle for gender equality and LGBTI+’s in the light of current developments” event to be organized by Ankara Bar Association Women’s Rights Center as part of Pride Month was targeted by members of the Patriotic Party. It is reported that the event was held despite the phobic and discriminatory verbal attacks of the groups in front of the Bar Association.

Lawyer Süleyman Şahin was detained by the prosecutor’s order at Diyarbakır Courthouse where he went to make his official statement through an investigation of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office on June 14, 2023.

The Revolutionary Textile Workers’ Union (DEV TEKSTIL) Çorlu district representatives Güneş Atalay and Cahit Atalay were detained in a house raid in Tekirdağ on June 15, 2023. The reason for detention could not be learned.

It is learned that 9 people were detained in house raids in Muş on June 12, 2023, on the grounds of participating in the funeral held for Mehmet Şirin Aydın, who lost his life in an attack on Ahmet Kaya Cultural Center in Paris on December 23, 2023, were arrested by the court on June 14, 2023. The names of arrested people are: Mehmet Yıldırak, Ensar Yıldırak, İbrahim Tekin, Davut Aktaş, Selami Uslu, Cihan Erol, Habib Kaynar, Habib Kılıç, Eyüp Toktaş.

The Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) Mersin provincial co-chair Gülten Kotanoğlu who was detained in a house raid on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on June 13, 2023 was released by the court on house confinement on June 14, 2023.

On June 14, 2023, 5 people including the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) members and executives were detained in house raids in Tekirdağ. The names of detained people and the reason for detention could not be learned.
(06/170) ÇHD Chair on Trial in Ankara…
The trial of the case against the Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) chair lawyer Selçuk Kozağaçlı is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 29 on June 13, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Selçuk Kozağaçlı on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ based on the raw footage from a movie called “Mahalle”, which was not released in Turkey. The indictment states no information about how the raw footage was obtained. Selçuk Kozağaçlı joined the trial via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 26, 2023.
(06/171) Human Rights Defender and Other People on Trial for ‘Insulting the President’ in Izmir…
It is learned that on June 9, 2023 the President’s lawyer filed an appeal to the Court of Cassation against the Penal Department No. 2 of Izmir Regional Court’s approval of the local court’s acquittal of Aytül Uçar, medical secretary of the HRFT in Izmir who was charged with ‘insulting the President’. A lawsuit was opened against 3 people (Aytül Uçar, Emine Akbaba and İrem Çelikbaş) who have been detained by the police intervening the protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, held in Izmir on February 3, 2021, and Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No. 41 has acquitted Aytül Uçar and sentenced Emine Akbaba and İrem Çelikbaş to 11 months and 20 days each and postponed the sentenced on December 30, 2022.

The first trial of the case against police officer named Ö. F. T., regarding the physical violence against journalist Ardıl Batmaz as he was reporting in Elazığ, is held at Elazığ Penal Court of First Instance No. 5 on June 15, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for the defendant police officer on the charge of ‘injury’. Ardıl Batmaz attended the trial, the court adjourned the trial to November 2, 2023.

The police raided the Revolutionary Textile Workers’ Union (DEV TEKSTIL) Çorlu district office on June 15, 2023. It is learned that banners, computers and some books at the office were seized.
(06/174) Cancelled Concert in Bursa…
It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2023 that the concert by Melike Şahin to be held on July 22, 2023 as part of the 61st International Bursa Festival was cancelled by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. In her speech at an award ceremony she attended, Melike Şahin said, “There will be days when we will not be judged or lynched by whom we love, whom we kiss, what we expose what we cover; that we can taste the happiness that comes from standing side by side only because we are human, I believe this” and was subjected to sexist and discriminatory attacks.

Şırnak Governorate made a declaration on June 14, 2023 and announced 14 regions (Cudi Mountain, Bestler Dereler, Kurt Mountain, Kureşin, Karaçalı T., Kel Mehmet D., Serin V., 2088 Rk T., Küçük Su Y., Gabar Mountain, Altın Mountain, İncebel Mountain, Oymakaya, Tanin Tanin) in central, Cizre, Silopi, Uludere, Güçlükonak, Beytüşşebap districts as special military security zones between June 15-29, 2023.
