06/170) Asylum Seeker Died in Racist Attack in Istanbul…
It is learned that Syrian citizen Sultan Jabeen (21) who was said “You cannot intervene in us” and was stabbed on June 14, 2022 while trying to intervene in a fight between two groups in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, and died in Taksim Training and Research Hospital where he was taken. It is reported that 3 people were detained in connection with the attack. It is also stated in the news reports that the scene was cleaned by the municipality employees before the police crime scene investigation units arrived.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2022, that Kadir Karadeniz (21), a prisoner held in Ağrı Patnos L Type Open Prison lost his life. It is stated in the news reports that the prison administration told his family that Kadir Karadeniz “committed suicide by drinking bleach and taking pills” regarding his death.
Kadir Karadeniz’s brother Ümit Karadeniz stated the following in his statement to the press: “According to the information we received from his ward friends, it was said that he hung himself with a rope, but his feet were touching the ground. The doctor who treated him at the hospital said that there was a chemical substance in his blood and he died because they could not remove this substance from the blood.”

It is learned from the news coverage of June 15, 2022, that a bookmark with the name of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş on it, that was sent to a prisoner named Metin Karadoğan in Kayseri Bünyan T Type Prison No 2, was not accepted into the prison.

Turgut Öker, the founding chair of the Confederation of European Alevi Unions (AABK), HDP Peoples and Beliefs Commission member and former deputy, was detained in Ankara on June 14, 2022 on the grounds of a detention warrant. Turgut Öker is released on the same day after statement procedures.

Human Rights Association (İHD) Ankara Branch executive Adile Erkan was detained on June 15, 2022 by the police raiding her house in Ankara through a Balıkesir based investigation. It is learned that Adile Erkan was taken to Balkesir for investigation which was launched on the grounds of corresponding with and sending money to the prisoners.

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Assembly member Seyhan Başak is detained by the police raiding her house in Batman on June 14, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

It is learned that 10 people who were called on June 14, 2022, to Kıraç District Police Station to make official statements on the grounds of wearing yellow, red and green coloured scarfs during a wedding ceremony in Esenyurt district of Istanbul.

It is learned that writer Leyla Saraç who was detained at the Izmir Airport on June 14, 2022, is arrested on the grounds of 9-days of solitary cell confinement penalty given to her in Bayburt M Type Closed Prison from where she has been released on October 25, 2021.

The trial of the case against 7 employees of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 on June 14, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to September 15, 2022.

The final trial of the case against 9 members and executives of HDP and journalist İbrahim Coşkun, who were detained during the distribution of leaflets regarding the budget negotiations in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), is held at Turgutlu Penal Court of First Instance No 4 on June 14, 2022. The court acquitted 10 people.

The trial of the case against the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) founder member Metin Gürcan is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 26 on June 14, 2022.
The indictment demands sentence for Metin Gürcan up to 20 years on the charge of ‘espionage’.
The court decided to release Metin Gürcan and adjourned the trial. Metin Gürcan was released by the court on May 11, 2022 but he was arrested once again upon objection of the prosecutor’s office.

The final trial of the case against street artist “Izinsiz” on the charges of ‘publicly degrading Turkish flag’ and ‘insulting the President’ by a drawing around Kabataş portside in Istanbul, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 20 on June 15, 2022.
The court sentenced the defendant to 1 year 2 months and 27 days and deferred the announcement of the verdict.
(06/184) Tahir Elçi Case…
The trial of the case against police officers S. T. and F. T., dismissed police officer M. B., and fugitive U. Y., for the killing of Diyarbakır Bar Association chair Tahir Elçi, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on June 15, 2022. Tahir Elçi was murdered in Diyarbakır on November 28, 2015.
The indictment demands jail sentences up to 6 years for 3 police officers on the charge of ‘causing death by culpable negligence’. The indictment demands heavy life imprisonment for 3 times, and 45 years of jail sentence for U. Y. who is alleged to be a PKK member, on the charges of ‘wilful killing’, ‘killing with eventual intent’, ‘opposition to Law no 6136’, ‘disrupting the unity of the state and integrity of the country’, ‘damaging property’.
The court decided to hear Ahmet Davutoğlu, the prime minister back then, as witness at the next trial which is adjourned to November 13, 2022.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha41.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 4 on June 14, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared on June 14, 2022 that 20 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the number of Covid-19 cases is 7,556 between June 6 and 12, 2022.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,996 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 15,085,742 as of June 12, 2022.
