(01/088) Curfew in Cizre…

The curfew in Cizre district of Şırnak reached its 33rd day as of 15 January 2016.

Yakup Isırgan who was wounded during heavy firings on 14 January 2016 in Cudi quarter died when he was shot again while being brought to hospital.

The bodies of Mehmet Şahin and Emame Şahin found on 14 January 2016 in front of their houses on Yayla street in Cudi quarter. They were both missing for the last 4 days.

2 children were reportedly wounded when their house in Dağkapı quarter was shot by a tank. Another child was also wounded in Yafes quarter. The children Yusuf Akalın (12) and Büşra Akalın (10) died in the hospital.

(01/089) House Raids in Siirt…

The police raided 2 houses on 15 January 2016 in Siirt on the allegations that PKK militants were taking shelter in the houses. 5 persons were allegedly killed during the armed clashes that broke out during the raids. 2 police officers were also wounded.

The civilian Ahmet Yiğit (42) died when a bomb exploded during the passage of police vehicle on 14 January 2016 in Nusaybin district of Mardin.

According to the news appeared in the press on 14 January 2016, Muhittin Gültekin’in (39) incarcerated in Kütahya E-type Prison for being convicted for killing his wife allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the restroom.

(01/092) Operations after the Academics for Peace Petition…

1128 academics who were signatories of the petition “Academics for Peace” were pointed as targets by the State President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The petition was demanding the government to end curfews and operations in blockaded districts Sur, Cizre and Silopi.

Public Prosecutors and the universities started investigations against the academics after the signatories of the petition were heavily criticized by both President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu for “supporting terrorism”.

Chief Public Prosecutor in İstanbul announced on 14 January 2016 that an ex officio investigation was launched against all 1128 academics.

Ümran Roda Suvağcı, lecturer at the School of Foreign Languages in Hakkari University, was detained on 14 January 2016 in connection with the investigation started by the Public Prosecutor in Hakkari. Ümran Roda Suvağcı was released after testifying with the Public Prosecutor

Operations were conducted against the signatories on 15 January 2016 in Kocaeli, Bursa and Bolu. 21 persons including HRFT founder Ümit Biçer were detained in Kocaeli. 2 academics were also detained in Bolu.

19 of the detainees in KOcaeli were announced as Adem Yeşilyurt, Aynur Özuğurlu, Burcu Yakut Çakar, Derya Keskin, Gül Köksal, Güven Bakırezer, Hakan Koçak, Hülya Kendir, Kuvvet Lordoğlu, Mehmet Cengiz Erçin, Mehmet Rauf Kesici, Mehmet Ruhi Demiray, Nilay Etiler, Onur Hamzaoğlu, Özlem Özkan, Ümit Biçer, Veli Deniz, Yücel Demirer, Zelal Ekinci

The police raided the houses of Ülkü Güney, Selime Güzelsarı and Barış Kılıçbay in Bolu and searched the houses.

The signatories Şule Akköse Aydın, Aylin Çakı and Gökhan Yavuz Demir were detained in the campus of Uludağ University in Bursa.

Meanwhile the doors of the signatories’ offices in Gazi University (Ankara) and Selçuk University (Konya) were signed by ultra-nationalists. Threatening letters were also stapled on the doors.

(01/093) Journalist on Trial on the allegations of Insulting the State President…

Erciş (Van) Penal Court of First Instance No 3 continued on 14 January 2016 to hear the case against Dicle News Agency (DİHA) correspondent İdris Yılmaz launched on charges of “insulting the State President”.

İdris Yılmaz who was remanded in another case was not brought to the court for security reasons.

The defendant rejected to testify through SEGBİS teleconference system and the court adjourned the hearing to 21 January 2016.

The police conducted a house raid on 13 January 2016 in Beylikdüzü district of İstanbul and detained Tayfun Kardaşoğlu on the allegations of “insulting the State President” with the expressions s/he used on social media.

(01/095) Political Party Premises Raided in Van…

The police raided the premises of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and several houses on 14 January 2016 in Erciş district of Van and detained 11 persons.

(01/096) Premises Attacked in Diyarbakır…

The premises of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Kurdi-Der were allegedly set to fire by the police on 14 January 2016 in Çınar district of Diyarbakır.

(01/097) Operations throughout Turkey…

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Assembly member Mustafa Haskırın was detained on 14 January 2016 while leaving Karakoçan district of Erzurum with his vehicle. Mustafa Haskırın was reportedly detained on the allegations of “denunciation”.

The students Mustafa Taze, Ali Haydar Buluş and Eren Can Aybek who were detained during house raids on 14 January 2016 in Mersin were arrested on the same day on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation” and “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.

Galip Geylani, HDP Co-Chair for Şemidinli district of Hakkari province, who was detained during a road control on 14 January 2016 was arrested on the same day on the allegations of “disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state”

Security Forces conducted operations in Başverimli town of Silopi district of Şırnak and detained 9 persons. 7 persons in Kayseri, 3 persons in Bismil district of Diyarbakır were also detained during the operations.

Ahmet Gönül, Ercan Çetin and Mehmet Önal who were among 9 persons detained during operations in Malazgirt district of Muş were arrested on 14 January 2016 on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

The police conducted house raids in Kırşehir relying on alleged “denunciations” and detained 10 students.

On 14 January 2016, the police raided the premises of Free Roni Youth Association (Özgür Roni Gençlik Derneği) in Aksaray quarter of Fatih district in İstanbul and detained 7 persons.

Nuri Yıldız, Metin Özhan, Osman Tartış, Levent Soner and Orhan İsti who were detained during operations in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı on 14 January 2016 were arrested on the same day on the allegations of “being member of an illegal organisation”.

Anti-Terror branch police officers conducted operations of 15 January 2016 and detained 5 persons in Efeler district of Aydın, 12 persons in Tarsus district of Mersin.
