(02/135) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on February 15, 2024, by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded to by Bursa Public Prosecutor’s Office.

(02/136) Police Intervention against a March in Urfa…

On February 14, 2024, the police used rubber bullets to intervene in the “Great Freedom March” for an end to the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in Urfa. It is learned that no one was detained during the intervention.

(02/137) Life/Environment Activist Detained in Erzincan…

Sedat Cezayirlioğlu, a life/environment activist, was detained in İliç on February 14, 2024, due to his statements on the collapse of a gold mine in İliç district of Erzincan.

(02/138) People Detained in Diyarbakır…

On February 14, 2024, 19 people were detained in house raids in the Lice district of Diyarbakır on the allegations of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’.

On February 14, 2024, 3 members of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Muş Youth Assembly (Mehtap Yıldırım, Nazan Ergün, and Fatma Ak) were detained in house raids in Muş. The reason for detention is not known.

(02/140) People Detained in Tunceli…

9 people (Besime Gök, Leyla Arslan, Naci Genç, Yusuf Ölmez, Naci Yalmaç, Dozvan Başak, Mithat Konak, Sevim Sağlam and Özer Laçin) were detained during house raids in Tunceli on February 15, 2024. The reason for detention is not known.

On February 15, 2024, 10 people (Yunus Emre Cangir, Abdullah Toka, Mehmet Zahir Sarıtaş, Fuat Yıldım, Zeynep Nas, Saniye Kaysi, Mizgin Yılmaz, Aysel Sartık, Esmer Oktayi and Dılbirin Oktayi) including peace mothers and DEM Party members were detained in house raids in Siirt. The reason for detention is not known.

DEM Party Hatay Provincial Co-Chair Seher Cevheroğlu was detained on February 15, 2024, due to her social media posts. Seher Cevheroğlu was released the same day after statement procedures at the police.

On February 15, 2024, DEM Party district executive Mübarek Güneş was detained in a house raid in the Savur district of Mardin. The reason for the detention is unknown.

On February 15, 2024, DEM Party Youth Assembly member Mehmet Aslan and DEM Party PM member İzzet Karadağ were detained in house raids in Urfa. İzzet Karadağ was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship on the same day on the allegation of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’.

On February 15, 2024, 11 members of DEM Party Youth Assembly (Peyam Kutlu, Eyüp Hekimoğlu, Hêja Jiyan Arıkboğa, Yusuf Yokuş, Yusuf Taşçar, Oğuzcan Yılmaz, Kerem Mengil, Tekin Sonsuz, Mazlum Karabenk, Diyar Gülen and Yakup Turan) were detained in house raids in Bağlar, Silvan and Lice districts of Diyarbakır. The reason for detention could not be learned.

6 people (Halil Yıldırım, Adnan Vural, Hamza Karaman, Kadir Nebioğlu, Samet Aravi, and Diyar Yarma) were detained during house raids in Batman on February 15, 2024. The reason for detention could not be learned.

(02/147) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against journalists Ahmet Altan, Nazlı Ilıcak, Fevzi Yazıcı and Yakup Şimşek was held on February 14, 2024, at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26 following the reversal of the verdicts by the Court of Cassation. The court sentenced Nazlı Ilıcak to 5 years and 3 months, Ahmet Altan to 6 years and 3 months and Fevzi Yazıcı to 2 years and 1 month on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organization without being a member’.

The trial of the case against 18 people, who were detained during the police intervention against the press statement organized for ‘Pride Week’ on July 9, 2023, started on February 14, 2024 at Eskişehir Penal Court of First Instance No 4. After the defences, the court adjourned the trial to March 1, 2024.

(02/149) Political Party Members on Trial in Bolu…

The first trial of the case against 4 members and executives of SOL Party (Sinan Cantürk, Ahmet Aksoy, Özer Çetinkaya and Yusuf Belek) who were detained on the allegations of ‘insulting the President while distributing leaflets in Bolu on May 14, 2023, started on February 14, 2024, at Bolu Penal Court of First Instance No 2. After the defences, the court adjourned the trial to May 6, 2024.

(02/150) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul…

The retrial of the case against 3 police officers (A., N. D., Y. Ş.) on the grounds of inflicting violence on journalist Beyza Kural while she was following the news, was held on February 15, 2024, after the verdict was reversed by Penal Department 23 of Istanbul Regional Administrative Court. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to March 12, 2024.

(02/151) Political Party and Association Members Prevented from Entering Erzincan…

It is learned that a delegation of Socialist Party of the Oppressed members and executives who wanted to go to the gold mine in the İliç district of Erzincan, where 9 workers were buried in a landslide on February 14, 2024, were not allowed to enter Erzincan on the grounds of being “objectionable”.

On February 14, 2024, the Munzur Environment Association was denied permission to go to Erzincan on the grounds of the Tunceli Governorate’s ban.

(02/152) Members of Parliament Against Whom Proceedings are Prepared…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 15, 2024, that proceedings on 3 parliamentary members of parliament demanding the lifting of their parliamentary immunity are sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

The parliamentary members for whom proceedings are prepared are:

  • Republican People’s Party Çorum MP Mehmet Tahtasız,
  • DEVA Party Tekirdağ MP Cem Avsar,
  • Saadet Party Istanbul Deputy Selim Temurci.

(02/153) People Detained and Arrested in Relation with the Coup Attempt…

On February 15, 2024, 42 people were detained in operations carried out in 14 provinces.
