(02/120) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…
According to the information recorded by Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, on February 6, 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 in Şehitkamil district of Antep which struck at 04:17 local time and an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 in Ekinözü district of Maraş which struck at 13:24 local time killed at least 35,418 people and injured 105,505 people in Adana, Adıyaman, Antep, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Maraş, Osmaniye, Urfa provinces as of February 13, 2023.
(02/121) People Subjected to Physical Violence in Earthquake Region…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 15, 2023 that, 2 people who survived the earthquake in Samandağ district of Hatay were subjected to physical violence of a group who raid their house on the grounds of “stealing fuel”. It is reported that 2 people were injured as a result of the attack. One of them stated the following to the press: “They raided and searched my house, I said we have nothing (…) I told my son what they have done that they were blaming us, when he got home. He went to them (…) They started to beat him, there were 10 people beating him. Then I said I should go save him. Then they left my son and started to beat me (…) I was spitting blood, almost fainted.”

It is learned that an investigation was launched against a health worker named B. A., for her expressions during a live broadcast in Adıyaman on February 14, 2023 and that police officer went to her home and kept a record on the investigation.
(02/123) Prosecutions and Detentions for Social Media Posts…
The General Directorate of Security announced that prosecutions were initiated against 293 people and 78 people were detained, 20 people were arrested for their social media posts about the earthquakes in Antep and Maraş, as of February 15, 2023.
(02/124) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 15, 2023 that, Maraş Türkoğlu Prison was damaged in the earthquakes that struck Antep and Maraş and the prisoners were transferred to Mersin Tarsus Prison where became over crowded due to this. It is also stated in the news reports that the food given to prisoners was inadequate and the water was given only in certain times.

It is learned that the appeal made on February 14, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.
(02/126) Detained HDP Executive and Other People in Hakkari…
On February 15, 2023, 3 people are detained in house raids in Şemdinli district of Hakkari, on the grounds of social media posts. Detained people are: The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şemdinli district former co-chair Cabbar Taş, Habil Aloğlu and Ergin Avcı.

The first trial of the case against Eren Tutel, sports editor of Birgün newspaper, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on February 14, 2023. Following the news reports of Eren Tutel, about the infractions and the national Wushu Federation; the chair of the federation and his daughter have filed a criminal complaint against him. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 15, 2023.

The final trial of the case against the former Chief of General Staff İlker Başbuğ, on the charge of “publicly inciting the people to hatred and hostility or degrading” in the interview he gave, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on February 14, 2023. The court acquitted İlker Başbuğ.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 14, 2023 that, 26 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 22 parliamentary members are prepared.
