(08/082) Woman Subjected to Physical Violence of Imam in Hatay…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 14, 2023, a woman named Arzu Eskiıdır, who went to a mosque in Antakya district of Hatay, was subjected to physical violence by the imam named Y. E., who was in charge of the mosque saying “How could you come here with this dress, aren’t you ashamed?”. It is also stated in the news reports that Arzu Eskiıdır was threatened to withdraw her complaint.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 14, 2023 that in Edirne L Type Prison the wards were over crowded, the prisoners were not regularly given water, the packages sent to prisoners were delivered with a delay.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2023 that, in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison the drawing pencils of a prisoner named Ahmet Erdem were seized during a ward search.

On August 15, 2023, 22 people were detained in house raids in central, Yüksekova, Çukurca and Şemdinli districts of Hakkari. It is learned that 22 people who were taken to Hakkari Provincial Security Directorate were subjected to a 24-hour restriction of seeing their lawyers. Detained people are: Faysal Açar, Saadettin Değirmenci, Basra Gör, Mehmet Sait Kaya, Ayhan Dayan, Suriye Bor, Emine Özdel, Fatma Bulut, Hasret Ağrali, Hasfet Fendik, Hamail Vural, Hünaf Safali, Mahsuna Akın, Münire Bayram, Sabriye Ürek, Seher Karagöz, Süheyla Saygı, Zahferan Çağala, Zeynep Tokçu, İsmail Ertunç, Halime Yılmaz and Senia Geylan.

4 children who were detained with 6 adults on the grounds of “making propaganda for an illegal organisation” in Adana on August 14, 2023 are released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on the same day. 6 people (Mehmet Öztemel, Tahir Mamuk, Fırat Bahadır, Caner Abo, Ferhat Kayran and Dilan Erbek) are released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 15, 2023.

It is learned that 25 people were detained in Izmir (19 people), Balıkesir (1 person), Sakarya (2 people), Antep (1 person), Bitlis (1 person), Manisa 1 person) through an investigation on the grounds of “violating the Law on Prevention of Financing of Terrorism” on August 15, 2023. It is also learned that there was a confidentiality order and lawyer meeting prevention for the detainees. 5 people detained in Balıkesir, Sakarya, Antep, Bitlis were released on the same day. The person detained in Manisa was taken to İzmir. It is leaned that 20 people are still in custody. The names of detained people learned so far are: Gökhan Kızıl, Reyhan Çomak, Mikail Kalın, Hamdullah Seyhan, Ayşe Öztürk, Savaş Özer, Berfin Özer, Felemez Yıldırım, Aziz Yıldırım, İhsan Bakır, Sibel Aydemir, Cahit Doğan.

It is learned that 19 people were detained in house raids in Mardin on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and sending money to their relatives in prison, on August 15, 2023. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day.

It is learned that 2 people (photographer B. K. and model E. C.) were detained on the grounds of “publicly degrading religious values of a section of people” over the photographs shared on social media which were took in Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara. Detained people were released by the court on judicial control conditions on the same day.

It is learned that an investigation was launched by Mardin Public Prosecutor’s Office against Mezopotamya News Agency grant holder Ferhat Çelik, over the news reports titled “AKP’s Artuklu Municipality has a bribery pool”, and that Ferhat Çelik made his official statement through the investigation at Feriköy Police Station in Istanbul.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 15, 2023 that, the concert of musician Gökçe to be held at the 31st Traditional Hayrabolu Sunflower Festival was cancelled by the municipality.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 14, 2023, that an imam named Halil Konakçı was subjected to an investigation launched by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, regarding a social media post as follows: “The majority of Hatay is Arab. We have Kurdish and Arab brothers there. So was it then. It was under French occupation until 1938. There were discussions about whether to keep it inside or outside the border. The ban on reciting azan came in 1932. The French did not ban the call to prayer in their Muslim villages and mosques in Hatay. Again, in the center of Hatay, which was under French occupation, the azan was read as ‘Allahu Akbar’ in the villages until 1938. When Hatay joined the Turkish territory in 1938, the first thing to do was to ban the azan. In other words, they did an oppression that the French did not”.

It is learned that 147 news reports and contents mentioning Artaş Holding chairman of the executive board were banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of Peace No. 3 on August 14, 2023.
It is learned that the news reports regarding allegations of corruption and sexual abuse in a nursing home in Erzurum, published on https://www.birgun.net, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://abcgazetesi.com websites were banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Erzurum Penal Court of Peace No. 1 on August 14, 2023.
(08/094) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…
On August 12, 2023, 1 person (former investigating judge Necmeddin Özmen of the Court of Cassation) was detained in Ankara.
On August 15, 2023, 14 people were detained in operations covering 8 cities through an Ankara based investigation and 1 person was detained in Istanbul.
