Beykoz Deputy Mayor Fidan Gül is detained on April 15, 2025 on the allegations of ‘bid rigging’ and ‘forming an illegal organization to commit a crime’.

(04/095) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first hearing of the case against journalist Necla Demir Arvas started on April 14, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23. The indictment demands sentence for Necla Demir Arvas on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. After defenses, the court sentenced Necla Demir Arvas to 2 years and 1 month on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organization’ and released her on bail.

Necla Demir Arvas was detained on January 17, 2025 and was arrested on January 20, 2025.

(04/096) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against journalist Hayri Demir was held on April 14, 2025. The sentence of 2 years 9 months and 22 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ was reversed by Ankara Regional Court of Appeals Penal Department No 22. The court sentenced Hayri Demir to 2 years 9 months and 22 days for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’.

On April 14, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2025 that proceedings against 6 parliamentary members demanding lifting of their parliamentary immunity are sent to Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

MPs against whom proceedings have been prepared:

• Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair and Adana MP Tülay Hatimoğulları Oruç,
• DEM Party Siirt MP Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş,
• DEM Party Mardin MP Salihe Aydeniz,
• DEM Party Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu,
• Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt,
• Independent Sakarya MP Ümit Dikbayır.

(04/098) People Detained in an Istanbul Based Investigation…

On 15 April 2025, 20 people were detained in house raids conducted in İstanbul, Kocaeli, Hatay, Gaziantep, Kayseri, Kayseri, Kahramanmaraş, Ankara and Manisa through a Konya based investigation on the allegations of being active in the “intimate military structure” of the organization.
