Iit is learned from the news coverage of March 15, 2025 that two prisoners in Van High Security Prison were subjected to physical violence of the wardens while they were being taken to infirmary and were wounded in various parts of their bodies.

It is learned that municipality officials intervened the right to life defenders protesting the killing of animals in the shelter of Mamak Municipality during the event organized by Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, in Mamak district of Ankara on March 15, 2025.
(03/100) Gendarmerie Intervention to Protest in Hatay…
It is learned from news coverage of March 15, 2025 that, gendarmerie intervened villagers protesting expropriation of land in Dikmece neighbourhood of Antakya district of Hatay, and detained 4 people. It is learned that 1 person was released after statement procedures on the same day, while 3 people were referred to the criminal court of peace. The fate of 3 people who were referred to the court was not reported.

It is learned that right to life defenders who wanted to make a press declaration in Kemalpaşa district of Izmir about a person who was wounded due to an armed attack for feeding a dog in his house, were prevented from entering the district by gendarmerie on March 15, 2025 and 3 right to life defenders were detained by gendarmerie using physical violence. 3 people were released after statement procedures at the gendarmerie on the same day.

It is learned that 30 people were detained after being surrounded by the police at the end of Student Collectives’ march to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance in Çankaya district of Ankara on March 17, 2025, to protest austerity measures in education. 30 people were released after statement procedures on the same day.
(03/103) Former Mayor, Municipality Executives and Other People Detained Through an Istanbul Based Investigation…
17 of 34 people including former mayor of Istanbul’s Sarıyer district Şükrü Genç and municipality employees and executives who were detained on March 11 and 12, 2025 in Istanbul, Samsun, Bursa and Izmir through an Istanbul based investigation are arrested by the criminal court of peace on March 12, 2025 on the charge of ‘financing an illegal organization’. 17 people were released on judicial control conditions.
The names of the arrested people are as follows Former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, İsmail Erdem, Melih Morsümbül, Mahmut Serdar Kızılay, Kalender Özdemir, Sinan Çetiz, Haydar Battal, Yunus Bolukoç, Ahmet Serdar Demirtaş, Dursun Ceylan, Kaya Emir Dönmez and İhsan Bulut.

On March 17, 2025, 4 members of Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly (Hüseyin Aslan, Mehmet Çetintaş, Müslüm Çakmak and Kemal Çakmak) were detained in house raids in Bozova district of Urfa. The reason for detention could not be learned.

It is learned from news coverage of March 17, 2025 that Belgian journalist Chris Den Hond, who came to Turkey to follow Newroz celebrations, was deported at Istanbul Airport after being prevented from entering the country.

It is learned from news coverage of March 15, 2025 that journalist İsmail Saymaz’s passport was seized at the airport where he was going to leave the country, on the grounds of a ban on leaving the country through an investigation against him.
(03/107) Co-Mayor on Trial in Ağrı…
The trial of the case against Hazal Aral, co-mayor of Ağrı, is held at Ağrı Doğubayazıt Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 14, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Hazal Aral on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. After defenses the court adjourned the trial to a later date.
(03/108) Journalists on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The final hearing of the case against US-based Vice News reporter Jacob Philip John Gingell Hanrahan, cameraman Philip John Pendlebury, interpreter Mohamed İsmael Rasool and driver Abdurrahman Direkçi on the charges of ‘aiding an illegal organization’, ‘violating the Law on the Prevention of Financing of Terrorism’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ was held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on March 17, 2025. The court acquitted 4 people.
Vice News reporter Jacop Philip John Gıngell Hanrahan, cameraman Philip John Pendlebury, interpreter Mohamed İsmael Rasool, driver Abdurrahman Direkçi and interpreter Mohamed İsmael Rasool were detained on August 28, 2015 after a raid to their hotel in Diyarbakır. The British citizen journalists and the interpreter were arrested while the driver was released pending trial. The British journalists were released on September 3, 2015 and subsequently deported. The Iraqi interpreter was released on January 4, 2016.

The trial of the case against DEM Party Assembly member Muhsin Aydoğdu and DEM Party Youth Assembly member Ömer Kıstak started on March 14, 2025 at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 2. The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released 2 people and adjourned the trial to September 25, 2025.
Muhsin Aydoğdu and Ömer Kıstak were arrested on April 29, 2024.
(03/110) The Case Against Tarlabaşı Community Support Association…
The dissolution lawsuit filed against Tarlabaşı Community Support Association (TTM) on the grounds that the association’s activities are ‘unlawful and immoral’ continued on March 17, 2025 at Istanbul 18th Civil Court of First Instance. The court adjourned the hearing to September 29, 2025.

It is learned that a total of 6 websites of alcoholic beverage brands were banned to access by 3 separate decisions of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Tobacco and Alcohol Department dated March 12, 2025 and March 13, 2025.
