(04/133) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 16, 2023 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Qandil area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on January 10, 2023 and 1 militant died in a clash on January 20, 2023.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 4 soldiers were wounded in the attack on the base zones of the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria on April 17, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 14, 2023 that, a prisoner named Alpaslan Kuytul was kept in a solitary cell in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison and was not allowed to use conversation and sports rights.

(04/135) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 14, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(04/136) Police Intervention to Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/ People held at the Galatasaray Square of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on April 15, 2023, and detained 12 people including the Human Rights Association (HRA) Istanbul branch chair Gülseren Yoleri, the Greens and Left Future Party deputy candidate Zekine Türkeri and the Confederation of Progressive Unions of Turkey (DİSK) Press, Broadcast and Printing Press Workers Union of Turkey (Basın-İş) chair Faruk Eren. Detained people are released on the same day. Detained people were: Hanım Tosun, Hanife Yıldız, Ali Ocak, Besna Tosun, Mikail Kırbayır, Feyyaz Yaman, Gülseren Yoleri, Faruk Eren, İrfan Bilgin, Hasan Karakoç, Kenan Yıldızerler, Zekine Türkeri, Arzu Aksakal.

(04/137) Detained Human Rights Defender in Istanbul…

HRA chair Eren Keskin was detained at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport on April 15, 2023, on the grounds of social media posts. Eren Keskin was released on the same day.

(04/138) Detained Journalist in Antalya…

Journalist Dilan Akyol who was detained in Antalya on April 14, 2023, on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation in the news reports, is released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on the same day.

(04/139) Detained People in Hakkari…

15 people who were detained in Yüksekova district of Hakkari on April 14, 2023, on the grounds of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and ‘resisting to public officer’, are released after statement procedures at the police on the same day.

(04/140) Detained People in Şırnak…

On April 16, 2023, 4 people including 1 child were detained in house raids in İdil district of Şırnak. The reason for detention is unknown.

(04/141) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 17 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on April 12-14, 2023. It is learned that the court board interrupted and turned off the microphone of HDP’s former executive Bülent Parmaksız as he was speaking at the trial held on April 13, 2023. The court decided to hear the prosecutor’s legal opinion on the case before the defence hearings were completed. The prosecutor demanded heavy life imprisonment for 36 people (Selahattin Demirtaş, Ahmet Türk, Bircan Yorulmaz, Ali Ürküt, Alp Altınörs, Altan Tan, Ayhan Bilgen, Ayla Akat Ata, Aysel Tuğluk, Ayşe Yağcı, Bülent Parmaksız, Cihan Erdal, Nazmi Gür, Dilek Yağlı, Emine Ayna, Figen Yüksekdağ Şenoğlu, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Gülser Yıldırım, Gültan Kışanak, Günay Kubilay, İsmail Şengül, Zeki Çelik, Pervin Oduncu, Sebahat Tuncel, Zeynep Karaman, İbrahim Binici, Mesut Bağcık, Can Memiş, Gülfer Akkaya, Berfin Özgü Köse, Meryem Adıbelli, Nezir Çakan, Aynur Aşan) on the charge of ‘disrupting unity and integrity of the state’. The court demanded arrest warrants for 12 people (Ayhan Bilgen, Bircan Yorulmaz, Emine Ayna, Emine Beyza Üstün, Gülfer Akkaya, Gülser Yıldırım, İbrahim Binici, Mesut Bağcık, Pervin Oduncu, Nezir Çakan, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Sibel Akdeniz) who were released previously, and continuation of detention of other defendants. The court adjourned the trial to July 3, 2023.

(04/142) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Merdan Yanardağ, over his article titled “Turning of Order into Mafia” is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on April 14, 2023. The court sentenced Merdan Yanardağ to 7 months and 15 days on the charge of ‘degrading Turkish Nation, State of the Turkish Republic, and the bodies of the State’.

It is learned that Mardin Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against journalist Ahmet Kanbal over his news reports and that Ahmet Kanbal made his official statement through the investigation at Mardin Provincial Security Directorate on April 15, 2023.

(04/144) Attack on Exhibition in Izmir…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 16, 2023 that, anonymous person or persons attacked the exhibition “Infidel Quarter” of artist Ahmet Güneştekin, and that some of the exhibits were damaged as a result of the attack.

(04/145) May 14, 2023 General Elections…

It is learned that the police prevented audio propaganda of the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) members who opened an election campaign stand in Konak district of Izmir, on the grounds of a compliant and a meeting at the governor’s office, on April 17, 2023.

(04/146) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 13, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,800 of them were identified and given to their families, 34 children were in the hospital, 73 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 20 children could not be identified.
