It is learned from the news coverage of September 14, 2023 that, 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Besta area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on July 12, 2023.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 14, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

The retrial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu and journalist Erdem Gül, as the local court’s verdict was overturned by the Penal Department No. 3 on the Court of Cassation, at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 14 on September 13, 2023. The court decided to stop proceedings for Enis Berberoğlu as he was elected as a deputy and has immunity, and to separate the case against Erdem Gül.

The trial of the case against co-executive editor Hüseyin Aykol and managing editor Reyhan Çapan from Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 13 on September 14, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to January 11, 2024.

The first trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency editor Abdurrahman Gök is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on September 14, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Abdurrahman Gök on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Abdurrahman Gök and adjourned the trial to December 5, 2023. Abdurrahman Gök was detained in Diyarbakır on April 25, 2023 and was arrested on April 27, 2023.

The indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Akif Beki, upon the complaint of Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü (known as “Ahmet Hodja the Cloaked”) is accepted by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 26 on September 14, 2023. It could not be learned when the trial will start.

The trial of the case against 19 lawyers, for holding a press declaration to protest the October 10 Ankara Massacre, in front of Istanbul Courthouse on October 12, 2015; is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. on September 13, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to November 8, 2022.

The trial of the case against the Democratic Regions party (DBP) Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Seval Gülmez is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on September 13, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to January 15, 2024. Seval Gülmez was detained on April 5, 2021 and was arrested by the court on April 12, 2021. She was released at the first trial held on September 6, 2021 but was arrested once again on February 2, 2022; and was released once again on May 13, 2022.

The trial of the case against the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) central executive board member Müslüm Koyun is held at Eskişehir Heavy Penal Court on September 13, 2023. The court decided to continue detention of Müslüm Koyun and adjourned the trial to October 24, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 14, 2023 that the event to be held in Beyazıt Square in the Fatih district of Istanbul on September 16, 2023, the death anniversary of Mehsa Emini, who lost his life after being detained in Iran, was banned by Istanbul Governorate as “being not appropriate”.
