(09/119) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 13, 2022 that, 3 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Mardin on July 27, 2022.

(09/120) Asylum Seekers Died in Muğla…

It is learned that 6 asylum seekers including 5 children lost their lives in Kızılburun offshore of Marmaris district of Muğla on September 14, 2022.

(09/121) Racist Attack in Mersin…

It is learned from the news coverage of September 14, 2022 that, the driver of a vehicle that hit another vehicle carrying Kurdish workers in Silifke district of Mersin on September 2, 2022, has shouted “These are terrorists, they will kill me” and Kurdish workers were subjected to the attack of other people around.

One of the workers who were subjected to the attack stated the following to the press: “A tractor passing by hit our vehicle, breaking the left rear-view mirror and cracking the windshield. So we followed the driver and he drove the tractor onto us in the field that we entered; and shouted ‘These are terrorists, they will kill me’ all of a sudden to provoke the people and he made others attack on us. The driver of the tractor (B. A.) punched my sibling in the face. And the crowd in the coffeehouse came onto us saying ‘leave our land, we will not let you live here’, with clubs and iron sticks.”

The Revolutionary Workers’ Union (Dev İşçi-Sen) chair Mazlum Oruç and the Revolutionary Party member Eser Tüz are detained in Istanbul on September 14, 2022. The reason for detention is unknown.

On September 14, 2022, 5 people are detained in house raids in Silopi district of Şırnak. The reason for detention is unknown.

(09/124) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against Doğan Ergün, former executive editor and İzel Sezer, former managing editor of İleri Haber news portal, for a news report about bribery allegations, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 33 on September 13, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charges of ‘unlawfully publicizing the information obtained through recording private conversations between persons’ and ‘insult’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 8, 2022.

(09/125) Journalist and Others on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 10 people including journalist Zeynep Kuray, who were detained in the police intervention to the press declaration to support the hunger strikes in prisons to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, held at the Eminönü Square in Fatih district of Istanbul on May 10, 2019; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 39 on September 13, 2022. Zeynep Kuray stated that her camera which was seized as she was being detained was still not given back. The court adjourned the trial to November 24, 2022.

The trial of the case against journalist Sultan Eylem Keleş, who was detained as she was reporting on the protest of BIMEKS workers on September 17, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Sultan Eylem Keleş on the charge of ‘insulting the police’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 16, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalists Can Bursalı and Barış Terkoğlu and against the Independent Turkish newspaper, with a claim of 300,000 Turkish Liras for non-pecuniary damage due to the allegation that one of the President’s former lawyers received a 15 million Turkish Liras attorney’s fee from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 11 on September 13, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to December 6, 2022.

The trial of the case against actor Ilyas Salman, on the charge of “degrading the Turkish nation, the State of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Government of Turkey and the judicial organs of the state”, in accordance with Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code, in a social media post is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 54 on September 13, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to December 1, 2022.

(09/129) Person on Trial in Istanbul for Social Media Posts…

The trial of the case against a person named Yusuf Güneş, for his social media posts, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 32 on September 13, 2022. Yusuf Güneş attended the trial without his lawyer and made his defence. The court sentenced Yusuf Güneş to 1 year, 6 months and 22 days on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(09/130) DİAYDER Case…

The trial of the case against 11 members and executives of DIAYDER (Religious Scholars Solidarity Association) including 4 arrestees, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 34 on September 13, 2022. The court decided to lift the ban on leaving the country for 2 people (Mehmet Sıddık Gülmez and Abdullah Taş) and adjourned the trial to December 13, 2022.

(09/131) Police Officers on Trial in Istanbul…

After the Constitutional Court ruled that journalist Gökhan Biçici was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment by the police while following the news during the Gezi protests in 2013, the first trial against the responsible police officers at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 48 on September 13, 2022. The court issued a warrant against the defendant police officers who did not attend the trial and adjourned the trial to November 22, 2022.

(09/132) Ban of Events in Şırnak…

Şırnak Governorate’s Office made a declaration on September 13, 2022, and announced that all kinds of open-door meetings and demonstrations, collective welcome and farewell ceremonies, press releases by institutions and organizations outside their own building, sit-ins, rallies, tents, signature campaigns, opening stands. banned mass funerals, commemorations, festivities, concerts, entertainment, performances of plays, demonstrations and similar actions and events are banned for 15 days as of September 13, 2022.

(09/133) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that 3 contents about the distrain on Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, published on https://ifade.org.tr website of the Freedom of Expression Association, and a total of 76 news reports 11 social media posts about the same issue are banned to access and ruled to be deleted on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 4 on September 13, 2022. Freedom of Expression Association announced that the previous request regarding the content on their website was rejected by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 4, but after the change of judge, the same court gave the ban decision.

It is learned that the website of Etkin News Agency https://www.etha47.com is banned to access on the grounds of “national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No. 4 on September 12, 2022.

(09/134) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 13 people are detained in operations covering 4 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.
