(07/138) Attack on HDP Executive in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 13, 2021 that, Şerafettin Duman, Avcılar district co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was threatened by persons claim themselves as police officers and on July 12, 2021, an armed attack was organized on his house.

(07/139) Attack on HDP Office in Muğla…

On July 14, 2021, an armed attack was organized on district office of HDP in Marmaris district of Muğla. It is learned that there were no casualties and 1 person (A. T. D.) is detained in relation to the attack.

(07/140) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 13, 2021 that, Mustafa Özgür Mulla, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers on June 28, 2021. It is reported that, a medical report evidencing the violence was not given to Mustafa Özgür Mulla although he asked for it.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 13, 2021 that, prisoners who reject to in-mouth search in Balıkesir Bandırma T Type Prison No 2, were not being taken to infirmary.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 13, 2021 that, Mithat Öztürk, an ill prisoner kept in Izmir Aliağa Şakran Prison was not being referred to a hospital for a month.

(07/142) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on July 13, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(07/143) Child Subjected to Physical Violence in a Mosque…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 13, 2021 that, a 9-year-old child (B. G.) attending the Kuran course at Yeniyurt Central Mosque in Dörtyol district of Hatay, was subjected to physical violence of the imam Necmi G. It is reported that the child’s family filed a criminal complaint to the prosecutor’s office based on the medical report evidencing the violence. Dörtyol Sub-Governorate’s Office and Dörtyol Muftiate launched an administrative investigation against the imam.

(07/144) Detained HDP Executive in Urfa…

HDP Haliliye district co-chair Müslüm Arslan is detained at Urfa Provincial Gendarmerie Command where he was called for testimony on July 13, 2021. It is learned that the reason of detention was, the case on Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on the charge of ‘resisting the police’ in 1 September International Day of Peace events. Müslüm Arslan is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(07/145) Detained People in Istanbul…

The People’s Law Office announced that 3 of their clients (Eda Kaya, Ali Hasan Akgül amd Volkan Yığıltekin) were detained after an identity check in a cafe in Maltepe district of Istanbul on July 12, 2021. 3 people are released after statement procedures on July 13, 2021.

(07/146) Özgür Gündem Case…

The trial of the case against Hüseyin Aykol and Zana Kaya, executive editor İnan Kızılkaya, editor in chief of Özgür Gündem newspaper and politician Hatip Dicle, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 22 on July 13, 2021. The court decided to prolong the detention warrant for Hatip Dicle and adjourned the trial to November 2, 2021.

(07/147) Özgür Gündem Case…

The trial of the case against journalist Can Dündar for participating in “Editors in Chief on Watch” campaign to support Özgür Gündem newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree; and against İnan Kızılkaya, executive editor of Özgür Gündem, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on July 13, 2021. The court decided to wait for execution of warrant against Can Dündar and adjourned the trial to November 2, 2021.

(07/148) Draft Bill on Extending State of Emergency Regulations…

On July 13, 2021, the Planning and Budgetary Parliamentary Commission approved a draft bill that includes articles extending emergency measures. Although state of emergency was lifted on July 19, 2018, the regulations including powers to suspend and dismiss public servants, and extended police custody for up to 12 days without charges could be effective for three additional years as of July 31, 2021.

(07/149) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 46 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 6,285 as of July 13, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 50,324 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,493,244 as of July 13, 2021.
