(12/128) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of December 13, 2021 that, Haşim Gezer, who is kept in Elazığ High Security Prison, was not allowed to attend the funeral and condolence service for her sister Garibe Gezer, who has lost her life in Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison.
It is learned from the news coverage of December 13, 2021 that, some prisoners in Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison were subjected to disciplinary proceedings for the clap protest about Garibe Gezer’s death in prison.
It is learned from the news coverage of December 13, 2021 that, 5 prisoners were subjected to torture and ill-treatment during their transfer from Edirne F Type Prison to Giresun Espiye L Type Prison. Çekdar Özer, one of the prisoners had a phone conversation with his wife, and she stated the following to the press: “My husband called me 36 hours later from Giresun Espiye Prison. He told me that he was subjected to torture during transfer. My husband was taken from Edirne F Type Prison on December 8 to Çorum. They stayed one night in Çorum and taken to Giresun the next morning. The correction officers in Çorum Sungur T Type Prison forced them to strip search. My husband and other prisoners refused this and they were subjected to violence. (…) And the correction officers have put a Turkish flag on the x-ray entrance, and wanted prisoners to go under the flag and to ‘obey’ them. (…) After leaving Çorum, they were not allowed to wear their coats. They were forced to travel without coats in the cold weather. The officers also turned the freezer of the air conditioner in the vehicle until they arrived to Giresun”.

The police intervened Hayrettin Bulan, who brought the dead body of a dog and 4 puppies to protest violence against animals, in front of the governorate’s office in Konya on December 13, 2021 and detained him on the grounds of holding an unlawful protest.
(12/130) Police Raid to Idil Cultural Center and Detained People in Istanbul…
The police raided Idil Cultural Center in Okmeydanı neighbourhood of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on December 13, 2021. It is learned that 9 people (Cenk Turan, Bergün Varan, Sultan Gökçek, Rıdvan Akbaş, Barış Yüksel, Bakican Işık, Sevda Kurban, Cemil Kurt, Fatih Şark) were detained.
It is reported that the police damaged properties and musical instruments during the search.
(12/131) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against journalist Durket Süren is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on December 13, 2021.
The indictment demands jail sentence for Durket Süren from 1 year to 8 years, on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, for her social media posts and distributing banned issues of Azadiya Welat and Özgür Gündem newspapers which are closed down by state of emergency decrees.
The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded acquittal of Durket Süren on the charge of ‘aiding an illegal organisation’ and demanded sentence of 1 year to 8 years on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court adjourned the trial to February 22, 2022.
(12/132) Association Chair on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The final trial of the case against Yüksel Almas, co-chair of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations), is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 on December 13, 2021.
Yüksel Almas joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court sentenced Yüksel Almas to 10 years on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and decided to continue detention.
Yüksel Almas was detained on February 27, 2021 and was arrested on March 9, 2021.
(12/133) City Council Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The final trial of the case against Panayır Çelik, city council member of Bağlar district and Rosa Women’s Association member, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on December 13, 2021.
The court sentenced Panayır Çelik to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 13, 2021 that, Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Istanbul congress which was held on December 12, 2021. It is learned that the investigation is launched upon Istanbul Security Directorate’s complaint for the slogans chanted and songs played at the congress.
(12/135) Ban of Events in Hakkari…
Hakkari Governorate made a declaration on December 13, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of December 13, 2021. All events are banned in Hakkari for 570 days since June 5, 2020.
(12/136) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 171 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 18,796 as of December 13, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 79,322 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 9,058,975 as of December 13, 2021.
