(04/161) Children Injured by the Explosion of the Object They Found in Şırnak…

On April 14, 2022, two children named S. E. (15, e) and Murat E. (15, e) were injured in the explosion of an object they found in the İdil district of Şırnak.

(04/162) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2022 that a person named Şahin Turgut was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment by the police in a restaurant he went to in Ankara on 30 March 2022.

The following statements are included in the criminal complaint made by Şahin Turgut in the news in the press: “The incident took place on Wednesday, March 30, between 17.30 and 19.00. About 15-20 police officers, who came to the restaurant where I had dinner with 3 people with me, headed directly to our table. The police chief said to me ‘Didn’t we tell you not to wander around here? You will get up and leave, there is no life for you here, you will learn that. When I told them that we were not disturbing anyone and that we were just eating, the police first collected the identities of the other people at the table, saying, saying, ‘We will conduct general information check’. And then they took me to the kitchen upstairs, there were no cameras there. Here I was handcuffed behind my back with cable tie. kitchen, which was upstairs and was not seen by the cameras. While some of the policemen stayed in the restaurant, about 4-5 policemen went to the kitchen section. The chief police hit me in the face with the radio device in his hand. Later, other police officers in the kitchen also beat me. Even though my friends in the restaurant wanted to get in after the shouts coming from the kitchen, the police outside the kitchen prevented this.”

(04/163) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Şırnak…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2022 that, a person named Behiye Dalmış was subjected to physical violence by the police during the police raid on a house in the Cizre district of Şırnak on April 11, 2022.

Behiye Dalmış stated the following in her statement to the press: “When I heard the sound of the door, I got up to open it. Although I said I would open the door, they forced the door open and entered the building. The door has come off. After they entered the building, they asked about my son, I said upstairs (…) I had my grandchildren at home, I was going to bring them home so they wouldn’t be afraid. The cops stopped me and didn’t let me in. Then he kicked me twice in the back and once in the stomach.”

(04/164) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of Yasin Keskin, who demands to be reinstated to his job at Çankaya Municipality, in outside of municipality building on April 13, 2022 and detained 2 people (Yasin Keskin and Mustafa Feroğlu) by using physical violence. 2 people who were injured in the face were released after statement procedures on the same day.

(04/165) Detained HDP Executives in Şırnak…

On April 11, 2022, 9 people including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Cizre district co-chair and executives were detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak. 6 of them are released by the court on judicial control conditions on April 13, 2022. It is learned that 3 people including HDP Cizre district co-chair Mesut Nart are still under custody.

(04/166) Detained People in Ağrı…

On April 14, 2022, 5 people (Kazim Çiçek, Cüneyt Kaya, Ümit Yıldız, İsa Mirboğa and Halis Bakır) were detained in house raids in Diyadin district of Ağrı. The reason of detention is unknown.

(04/167) Investigation Against Person Who was Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2022 that an investigation was launched against Uğur Acar, who was 65 percent disabled and injured by the physical violence of the municipal police on 8 April 2022 for selling tea on the street in Van, launched by Van Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office lon the grounds of ‘resistance to the duty’ and ‘resistance to the officer in charge’.

(04/168) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Ceren Sözeri, upon complaint of Serhat Albayrak, Turkuvaz Media Group Vice President of Executive Board, for the article titled “Who caused poll defeat of AKP”, is held at Istanbul Commercial Court of First Instance No 2 on April 13, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to October 5, 2022.

(04/169) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned that the Civil Chamber No 4 of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice, concluded on the appeal against the local court’s verdict in the case against Sendika.org website editor Ali Engin Demirhan on April 13, 2022. The court lifted the verdict of Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No 8 and ruled that Ali Ergin Demirhan should pay a compensation of 20,000 Turkish Liras to Turkish Raido and Television isntitution, for the news report titled “TRT honored: They received a plaque from HTS, which Turkey considers to be a ‘terrorist'”.

(04/170) Investigation Against HDP MP…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2022 that, Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against HDP MP Musa Piroğlu, on the charge of ‘insulting a public official’. Musa Piroğlu was subjected to physical violence and fell out of his wheelchair during the police intervention against the press declaration to protest detention of HDP members and executives, held in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on April 12, 2022.

(04/174) The Case Against HDP Member in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against HDP press employee Vedat Dağ is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on April 13, 2022. The court sentenced Vedat Dağ to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, to 1 year and 6 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisatipn’ and to 2 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘threat’.

(04/176) The Case for Closure of the We Will Stop Femicide Platform Association…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2022 that, a closure case was filed against the We Will Stop Femicide Platform Association on the grounds of some complaint petitions stating that “under the guise of defending women’s rights, it disintegrated the family structure by ignoring the concept of family” and the investigations opened against the executives of the association. It is stated in the news reports that the Istanbul Governorship Provincial Associations Directorate requested Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to close the association on March 29, 2018, and the prosecutor’s office prepared the indictment on December 2, 2021.

(04/177) Ban of Events in Van…

Van Governorate made a declaration on April 13, 2022 and announced that, all open-door meetings and demonstrations are banned for 15 days as of April 14, 2022. It is also announced that press declarations, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on will be subjected to the local authority’s permission. All events are banned in Van for 1984 days since November 21, 2016.

(04/178) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On April 13, 2022, 21 people are detained in operations covering 10 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(04/179) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 31 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 5,529 as of April 13, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,493 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,978,031 as of April 13, 2022.
