It is learned that the appeal made on April 13, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.
(04/145) Police Intervention to a Protest in Izmir…
The police intervened the protest regarding Istanbul Convention organized by Socialist Women’s Assembly (SKM) and Free Young Women (ÖGK) members in front of the Presidency Directorate of Communications Office in Izmir on April 13, 2021; and detained 4 people (Gül Gök, Meryem Yıldırım, Güngör Didar Gül and İrem Nur Çelikbaş).
(04/146) Detained Retired Military Officers for Declaration…
Following the declaration about Montreux Convention signed by 104 former navy officers, 10 of the signatory officers were detained and 4 of them were called to make official statements on April 5, 2021. On April 13, 2021, 14 navy officers are released by the court on judicial control conditions.
Released former officers are: Ergun Mengi, Atilla Kezek, Alaettin Sevim, Ramazan Cem Gürdeniz, Nadir Hakan Eraydın, Bülent Olcay, Kadir Sağdıç, Türker Ertürk, Turgay Erdağ, Ali Sadi Ünsal, Atilla Kıyat, Engin Baykal, Cemil Şükrü Bozoğlu and Mustafa Özbey.
(04/147) Co-Mayor on Trial in Urfa…
The trial of the case against Hatice Çevik, HDP co-mayor of Suruç district of Urfa, is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 13, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Hatice Çevik on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.
After defence hearings the court released Hatice Çevik and adjourned the trial to June 1, 2021.
Hatice Çevik was detained on November 15, 2019 and was arrested on November 20, 2019. She was released from prison on June 23, 2020. The Ministry of Interior has appointed Suruç sub-governor as a trustee to Suruç Municipality.
(04/148) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…
The retrial of the case against Şahin Alpay, Ali Bulaç, Mümtazer Türköne and Mehmet Özdemir is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on April 13, 2021. On September 25, 2020, Penal Department No 6 of the Court of Cassation has reversed the jail sentences given to journalists on the grounds of “lack of investigation”.
Şahin Alpay, Ali Bulaç and Mümtazer Türköne attended the trial and made their defence declarations. The court issued a detention warrant against Mehmet Özdemir and adjourned the trial to September 9, 2021.
(04/149) “KCK Main Case”…
The retrial of the case known as “KCK Main Case” against 36 people including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Mardin MP Pero Dündar and Van MP Tayip Temel, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 13, 2021. The local court’s earlier verdict was reversed by the Court of Cassation.
Pero Dündar and Tayyip Temel did not attend the trial and the court decided to hear them before the next trial that will be held on September 21, 2021.
(04/150) Security Staff on Trial on the Charge of Sexual Assault in Van…
The trial of the case against 2 security staff (İ. H. K. and Y. V.) of Kurubaş Repatriation Center of Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in Van, on the charge of sexual assault to an Iranian woman Z. M., is held at Van Heavy Penal Court No 1 on April 13, 2021.
The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for 2 defendants on the charge of ‘sexual assault’. The court adjourned the trial to July 8, 2021.
(04/151) Ban of CHP Posters and Banners…
It is learned that banners of Republican People’s Party (CHP) asking “Where is the 128 billion dollars?”, hung on Istanbul provincial office and 39 district offices of the party were removed upon prosecutor’s instructions on April 13, 2021.
It is learned that the posters of CHP posted in billboards in Edirne were removed for the second time upon prosecutor’s instructions on April 13, 2021.
It is learned that the posters of CHP posted in billboards in Kocaeli were removed by Kocaeli Municipality officers on April 13, 2021.

It is learned that 3 news reports about the school counsellor stating “Congrats, there is still a lot to do” to celebrate Turkey’s withdrawal from Istanbul Convention, published on www.birgun.net/ and https://sol.org.tr/ websites are banned to access on the grounds on violation of personal rights by Bursa Penal Court of Peace No 4 on April 13, 2021.
(04/153) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…
On April 13, 2021, 54 people are detained in operations covering 49 cities through an Izmir based investigation and 2 people are detained in Edirne in an alleged attempt to illegally flee abroad.
1 of 7 people who were detained in Aydın is arrested by the court and 6 of them are released on judicial control conditions on April 13, 2021.
(04/154) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 273 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,723 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 13, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 59,187.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 34,455 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,962,760 as of April 13, 2021.
On April 13, 2021, dental technician Yaşar Gürlek in Istanbul lost his life from Covid-19.
