(07/157) Claim of Extra-Juridical Killing in Van…

It is learned that 2 people died, 3 police officers were wounded and 6 people were detained in a house raid in İpekyolu district of Van on July 15, 2018. Van Governorate made a declaration claiming that 2 people who died were in preparation for an action.

(07/158) Claim of Extra-Juridical Killing in Manisa…

It is learned from news coverage of July 15, 2018 that, the person who died in police operation in Manisa on July 12, 2018 was Naci Dayangaç, alleged to be an HPG member. The news reports states that, on the contrary to the declaration of the governorate, the operation was not a narcotic operation, and there was no clash as claimed based on witness statements.

It is learned that, Adem Bozkurt, who was detained through the same investigation, was subjected to torture under custody and has bruises on his eyes due to torture.

It is reported that 14 people are detained in operations in Manisa, Istanbul and Diyarbakır through this investigation.

(07/159) 3 People Killed by Village Guards in Suruç…

It is learned that, Müslüm Toraman, headman and village guard of Höyükhanı village in Urfa’s Suruç district, and his 2 sons who are village guards as well, killed 3 people (Ahmet Boğaakça, Murat Boğaakça, Salih Boğaakça) from the same family, and seriously wounded 1 person (İmam Boğaakça) on a quarrel for watering, in Yolbilir village of Eyyubiye district on July 13, 2018. It is learned that a military operation was organized to Höyükhanı village after the incident. However, it is not known whether Müslüm Toraman and 2 sons of him were detained or not by the military raid.

It is reported that 1 village guard died and 1 village guard was wounded in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in Silvan district of Diyarbakır on July 13, 2018.

It is learned from news coverage of July 14, 2018 that, 2 HPG militants died in a clash in Tunceli on July 2, 3 militants died in a clash in Hakkari on July 5, 2 militants died in a clash in rural areas of Uludere district of Şırnak on July 11, and 1 militant died in Bitlis on July 11, 2018.

(07/161) Person Died in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of July 14, 2018 that Davut Demirkale, a prisoner who was arrested through a “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation / Parallel State Settling investigation”, died in Mersin E Type Prison on July 8, 2018. It is claimed in the news report that Davut Demirkale killed himself by hanging with a sheet.

(07/162) Prevention of Infant’s Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of July 13, 2018 that, A. Y. (1), an infant with asthma who is kept in Urfa T Type Prison No 2 with her mother Esma Yılmaz, was not taken to hospital although she was referred as an emergency case, and thus she ran a fever. It was stated in previous news reports that A. Y. was given inaccurate medication. A. Y.’s father stated in the news reports that, inaccurate medication was revised, however updated medication was not given yet.

(07/163) Coercion to Uniforms and Reactions Against…

The press declaration of TAYAD (Prisoner’s Families’ Solidarity Association) members attempted to be held in Sakarya Street in Ankara on July 14, 2018 against uniform coercion in prisons is prevented by the police. It is reported that 2 people (Halil İbrahim Şener and Armağan Özbaş) were detained in police intervention.

(07/164) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on July 13, 14, and 15, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 13, 2018, 4 people (Alev Şahin, Mehmet Dersulu, Cafer Keleş and Cengiz Tepe) and at 18.00 4 people (Acun Karadağ, Derviş Lermi and 2 more people) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 14, 2018, 3 people (Mehmet Dersulu, Alev Şahin and Nazan Bozkurt, who was monitoring the press declaration and whose cheekbone has been broken by the police in an earlier intervention) and at 18.00 4 people (Alev Şahin, Gülnaz Bozkurt, Acun Karadağ and Derviş Lermi) were detained.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on July 15, 2018, 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt and Mehmet Dersulu) and at 18.00 3 people (Gülnaz Bozkurt and Mehmet Dersulu) were detained.

Thus in total 19 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on July 13, 14, and 15, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(07/165) Police Raid to HDP District Office in Istanbul…

On July 15, 2018, HDP (People’s Democratic Party) district office in Sancaktepe is raided by the police. The police broke into the office while members and executives of HDP were inside, and detained 16 people including district co-chair. It is learned that the reason for the raid is alleged possession of illegal posters and banners. The names of detainees are: HDP Sancaktepe district co-chair İlknur Yusufoğlu, HDP provincial executive Nevzat Kılıç, Sıtkı Akbaş, Cahit Avcı, Mahmut Kahraman, Muhsin Demir, Nesim Kılıç, İsmet Çam, M. Nuri Göksu, Sabat Karul, Abdurrahman Irmak, Nurettin Şevlik, Temel Akçan, Nazlı Ural, Yunus Kaya, Lokman Akçan.

It is learned from news coverage of July 15, 2018 that Dilan Düzgün of The Left Party and city council member of Alzey, Germany, is detained based on a warrant, in Muğla Dalaman Airport where she has been to depart for Germany, on July 13, 2018. It is reported that a detention warrant was issued for Dilan Düzgün on the grounds of ‘engaging in activities to aid an illegal organisation’. It is reported that Dilan Düzgün was released on July 14, 2018 and will leave Turkey on July 16, 2018.

On July 13, 2018, 4 people including HDP members and executives (Ömer Bozdal, HDP Eyyubiye district co-chair; Sefer Kip, former employer of Suruç municipality; HDP member Nihat Şahin and Ramazan Yavuz) are detained for social media posts, in house raids in Suruç on July 13, 2018.

On July 14, 2018, 14 people including Evliya Güdan, HDP’s MP candidate for Zonguldak, are detained in operations covering 3 cities through a Manisa based investigation.

Zeliha Yaman, a member of The Trade Union of Public Employees in Health and Social Services (SES), who is 3 months pregnant and has a heart disease and who was detained on July 11, 2018, is released after procedures at the prosecutor’s office on July 13, 2018.

(07/170) Person Detained for Social Media Posts in Istanbul…

Volkan Kesanbilici, who was detained for social media posts, in Istanbul on July 15, 2018, is released after statement procedures the police the same day.

Volkan Kesanbilici, has lost his left eye due to a rubber bullet shot from a police armoured vehicle during Gezi Park protests in 2013.

Mervan Ala, who was detained for social media posts, in house raids in Iskenderun district of Hatay on July 13, 2018, is arrested by the court for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, on July 14, 2018.

On July 13, 2018, Sait Acar, a former executive of HDP in Aksu district of Antalya is detained for social media posts, in house raids.

(07/173) Police Intervention Against Protest in Ankara…

On July 14, 2018, the police intervened the members of Students Collectives and Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation, who distribute leaflets in Ankara Kuğulu Park, to protest Suruç massacre, and detained 8 students.

(07/174) Police Intervention Against Protest in Istanbul…

On July 15, 2018, the police intervened with pepper gas into workers of Real Market and Uyum Market, who want to organize a protest in a shopping mall in Istanbul and detained 3 workers.

(07/175) DBP Co-Chair and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Co-Mayor on Trial…

The case against DBP (Democratic Regions Party) co-chair Sebahat Tuncel, and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Co-Mayor Gültan Kışanak, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 which has been transferred to Malatya Heavy Penal Court No 1 for security reasons, is held on July 13, 2018. The indictment demands 240 years’ jail sentence for Gültan Kışanak, on the grounds of ‘establishing and leading an illegal organisation’, ‘participating in illegal meetings and demonstrations’, and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ for 41 times. The indictment demands 145 years’ sentence for Sebahat Tuncel on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.

The court decided to continue detention for Tuncel and Kışanak, and adjourned the trial to October 8, 2018 in for preparation of defences against legal opinion of the prosecutor.

(07/176) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against journalist Serdar Altan on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held on July 13, 2018. The court sentenced Serdar Altan to 1 year 6 months and 20 days, and postponed the sentence.

The final trial of the case against journalist Fuat Yaşar, on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 9 is held on July 13, 2018. The court acquitted Fuat Yaşar.

(07/178) The Case Against Sedat Peker…

The final trial of the case against Sedat Peker, for saying “We will shed your blood and take a shower in it!”, to academics of peace who signed “We will not be a party to this crime!” petition, on Istanbul Anatolian Penal Court of First Instance No 20 is held on July 13, 2018. The court acquitted Sedat Peker for ‘threatening’ and ‘inciting to commit crime’.

(07/179) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned from news coverage of July 15, 2018 that, a person named Yusuf İnan was brought to Turkey after an operation of National Intelligence Service in Ukraine.

On July 13, 2018, 15 military personnel in operations covering 13 cities through a Kayseri based investigation; 2 people in Eskişehir and 1 person in Ankara are detained.

14 of 30 people who were detained through an Isparta based investigation on July 6, 2018, are arrested by the court on July 13, 2018. 17 people 10 of which are on juridical control conditions are released. It is learned that 3 people are still in custody.

2 of 4 people who were detained in Izmir, are arrested by the court on July 13, 2018. 2 people 1 of which is on juridical control conditions, are released.
