(06/122) High School Students Subjected to Police Torture in Istanbul…

7 of 22 high school students who were detained by police intervention against the press declaration in Kadıköy on June 8, 2018 and were subjected to police torture, made an official complaint at Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse about the police officers who executed physical and psychological violence on them.

(06/123) Person Died Due to Being Hit by a Gendarmerie Vehicle in Aydın…

It is learned that a person named Ahmet Barışık (74) died due to being hit by a gendarmerie minibus in Söke district of Aydın on June 12, 2018.

(06/124) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from news coverage of June 12, 2018 that 6 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in Pülümür district of Tunceli on April 4, 2018.

It is learned from news coverage of June 12, 2018 that 1 militant died in a clash in Yüksekova district of Hakkari on June 9, 2018.

(06/125) Rejection to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 12, 2018 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was rejected the same day on the grounds of limitations for prisoners in accordance with the law on the execution of sentences and security measures (law no 5275). With the last rejection, it was the 763rd time that appeals for visiting Öcalan have been rejected so far. Abdullah Öcalan has met his lawyers on July 27, 2011 for the last time.

It is learned from news coverage of June 13, 2018 that Bursa Judge of Execution Office No 1 decided on March 2, 2018 that, visitors are forbidden, written communication and phone call rights are limited, contacts with attorneys are forbidden, and the documents given by attorneys are limited. It is reported that, upon objection, Bursa Heavy Penal Court No 1, approved the decision of Bursa Judge of Execution Office No 1 along with a time limit. Thus, visitors are forbidden for 6 months, written communication and phone call rights are limited for 3 months, contacts with attorneys are forbidden for 6 months and documents from attorneys are limited for 3 months.

(06/126) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from news coverage of June 12, 2018 that in Tarsus T Type Prison No 1, more than 20 prisoners are kept in wardens for 14 people, infirmary and hospital transfers are made with almost 45 days of delay, prisoners are subjected to strip search during hospital transfers and the number of books for prisoners are limited.

(06/127) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling for a while to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on June 12, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on June 12, 2018, 2 people (Selvi Polat and Mahmut Konuk) and at 18.00 2 people (Acun Karadağ, and Selvi Polat) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on June 12, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(06/128) Person Arrested for ‘Insulting the President’ in Aydın…

A person named G. T., who was detained in Aydın for insulting the president in a correspondence via Presidency Communication Center (CİMER), is arrested by the court on June 12, 2018.

(06/129) October 10 – Ankara Massacre Case…

The case against 36 people including 19 arrestees and 17 fugitives, about October 10 Massacre in Ankara, on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on June 12, 2018. The number of defendants have decreased to 35 after Mehmet Kadir Cebael, a fugitive defendant dies.

It is learned that a complainant said “I am a mother. I cannot stand. You did not let us talk as much as these murderers here”, and the chief judge responded as following “So what if you are a mother. Your lawyer is talking, why do you yell”, and left the courtroom after this discussion.

The lawyers stated that the defendants must be on trial for ‘crime against humanity’.

The prosecutor’s office rejected the demand of complainant lawyers to expand the investigation, and declared the legal opinion. The prosecutor demands heavy life penalty for 101 times, for 9 defendants for charges of ‘violating the Constitution’ and ‘wilful murder of 100 people’. The prosecutor also demands 9 defendants to be sentenced to 15 years for being ISIS member, and 1 defendant to 24 years for ‘possessing fatal guns and bullets’ and ‘possessing and transferring forbidden hazardous material as an illegal organisation’s activity’. The prosecutor’s office demands separating the cases of 16 fugitives and abatement of action for the dead defendant.

The court adjourned the trial to July 31-August 2, 2018.

(06 /130) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The cases against PhD N. İ. and Assoc. Professor Eyüp Volkan Çidam from Boğaziçi University for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held on June 12, 2018. After declarations of academicians the court adjourned the trials to October 18, 2018.

(06/131) Former HDP MP on Trial…

The final trial of the case against former Ferhat Encü, former Şırnak MP of HDP, who was relieved of PM duties after the court verdict given to him was finalized, for not letting the police search at his home during the curfew in İdil, on İdil Penal Court of First Instance No 1 is held on June 12, 2018. Ferhat Encü attended the trial via sound and vision system. After defence hearings the court sentenced Ferhat Encü to 10 months for ‘publicly insulting the government of Republic of Turkey, judicial bodies of the state, military and police organization’. The court converted the sentence to fine penalty.

(06/132) Elections on June 24, 2018…

On June 12, 2018, 7 people including district election board member and HDP members, based on anonymous witness statements, in house raids in Derik and Mazıdağı districts of Mardin are detained. The names of detainees are: Vedat Erol, district election board member of HDP in Derik and HDP members Şerife Kıran, Meliha Kıran, İsmail Çelik, Tarık Ektiren, Adem Doğan and Hamdullah Ayaz.

It is learned that Baran Karak, who was detained in an event of HDP to which HDP co-chair Pervin Buldan attends, in Suruç district of Urfa on June 11, 2018, and was released after HDP members intervened, is detained again on June 12, 2018.

It is learned from news coverage of June 12, 2018 that 2 people, S. F. and Ö. F., who reacted against the headman of Ayrancı village of Ağrı’s Doğubayazıt district, because he insulted people not voting for AKP, are detained by physical violence.

It is learned from news coverage of June 12, 2018 that AKP MP candidate who visits Toptepe village of Erzurum was protested by children, and Selami Sümbül, town council member from DBP, is detained for ‘organising the children’.

It is learned that HDP members distributing leaflets and visiting the streets within electoral campaign in Kadirli district of Osmaniye are attacked by rocks by a group alleged to be AKP and MHP members. It is learned that 6 members of HDP and the campaign vehicle are taken to the police station. It is reported that HDP MP candidate was not allowed in the police station to see 6 members of HDP.

It is learned that Mustafa Taş, a HDP member was detained while leaving the district office of HDP in Yenişehir district of Mersin on June 12, 2018.

(06/133) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On June 12, 2018, 9 military members on active duty in operations covering 11 cities through a Zonguldak based investigation, and 1 person in Kayseri are detained.

(06/134) İYİ Party Executive Arrested in Adana…

Sefa B., Youth Branch chair of İyi Party in Çukurova district of Adana, who was detained through “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation / Parallel State Structure” on June 1, 2018 is arrested by the court on June 12, 2018. It is learned that 24 people detained through the same investigation are released, provided that 11 of them on juridical control conditions.
