It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2021 that, 1 HPG militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Qandil area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 4, 2021.

(07/124) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2021 that, Mehmet Özen, a prisoner who was transferred from Diyarbakir D Type Prison to Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison was subjected to strip search and in-mouth search at the entrance of prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2021 that, prisoners in Istanbul Silivri Prison Compound are given inadequate amount of water.

(07/125) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2021 that, the Forensic Medicine Institution made no decision to release Mehmet Emin Özkan, an 83-year-old ill prisoner, on the grounds of “inadequate basis to form an opinion”. The institution decided to re-examine after 1 month of observation in an R Type prison and to re-evaluate his condition considering psycho-social observation report that covers his daily routine and vital activities.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2021 that, Mustafa Emiroğlu, a prisoner who tested positive for Covid-19 in Afyon Bolvadin Prison, was admitted to hospital in severe condition 11 days after the test.

It is learned that the appeal made on July 12, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(07/127) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the sit-in protest in Bakırköy Square of Istanbul on July 12, 2021, organized by public employees to demand their jobs back from which they had been dismissed by state of emergency decrees, and detained 1 person (Nursel Tanrıverdi). Nursel Tanrıverdi is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(07/128) Police Intervention to Workers’ Protest in Istanbul…

The police prevented the protest of Pegasus Airlines workers who had been dismissed for being union members, which was to be held at the company’s headquarters in Istanbul on July 12, 2021. The police forced workers and union executives out of the building.

(07/129) Detained HDP Member in Hakkari…

Lokman Özdemir, Hakkari provincial co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who was detained on the grounds of “making propaganda for an illegal organisation” at a wedding ceremony on July 11, 2021, is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(07/130) Detained German Citizen in Kayseri…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 12, 2021 that, a 56-year-old German citizen (T. Y.) was detained at Kayseri Airport on July 9, 2021; and was released by the court with a ban on leaving the country.

(07/131) Detained Person in Van…

On July 12, 2021, 1 person (Meral Abi) is detained in a house raid in İpekyolu district of Van. The reason of detention is unknown.

(07/132) The Case Against Saturday Mothers in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 46 people including human rights defenders and relatives of forced disappeared persons, who were detained in the police intervention against Saturday Mothers’ protest in its 700th week; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 21 on July 12, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 46 people on the charge of ‘violation of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911’.

It is learned that a dispute took place between lawyers and the court board after the chief judge intervened the defence declarations; and that the chief judge has stated “I will take out anyone who speaks without being called upon”. The court made a pause and decided to take out Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Mahmut Tanal who has said “Dear Judge, you cannot act unlawfully as you sit there. Why do you keep yelling? The law does not allow you to do so”. It is learned that Mahmut Tanal was not allowed in the court room after the pause. The court rejected recusation demand of the lawyers and adjourned the trial to November 24, 2021.

The 700th weekly gathering of Saturday Mothers who rally every Saturday at Galatasaray Square in Istanbul for their relatives who were disappeared under custody, was banned by Beyoğlu Sub-governorate’s Office on August 25, 2018; and the police intervened those who gather at Galatasaray Square and detained 46 people.

(07/133) Gezi/Çarşı Case…

The retrial of the case against 35 people for Gezi Park protests in 2013, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on July 12, 2021. The Court of Cassation has reversed the acquittal decision of the local court.

The court accepted the intervention demand of the President and adjourned the trial to October 8, 2021.

(07/134) Ban of Events in Muş…

Muş Governorate made a declaration on July 12, 2021 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of June 13, 2021.

(07/135) Non-Prosecution for Police Officers in Diyarbakır…

On July 12, 2021, Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution of the police officers who were charged for breaking an arm and 3 teeth of a person named Kevser Demir, in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on May 18, 2021. It is stated in the decision that “there was not enough evidence gathered to form opinion for a public case”.

It is stated in the news reports that, although the medical report of Kevser Demir defines her condition as “a minor injury that cannot be cured by a simple medical treatment”, the Prosecutor’s Office claims it to be “a minor injury that can be cured by a simple medical treatment”.

It is learned that the complainant lawyers will object to this decision.

(07/136) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On July 12, 2021, 137 people are detained in operations covering 47 cities through an Izmir based investigation.

Orhan İnandı, a person who was detained in Kyrgyzstan by Turkish National Intelligence Organisation officers, is arrested by the court in Turkey on July 12, 2021.

(07/137) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 49 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 5,404 as of July 12, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 50,278 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,486,959 as of July 12, 2021.
