It is learned from the news coverage of February 13, 2024, that during the police raid on a house in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul, 1 person who was in the house was subjected to torture and ill-treatment and was wounded in various parts of his body.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 12, 2024, that political prisoners who participated in the hunger strike in Antalya Manavgat S Type Prison and Erzurum Dumlu High-Security Prison, demanding an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, were handcuffed behind their backs during hospital transfers, and that prisoners who reject to be examined in handcuffs were subjected to torture and ill-treatment and could not benefit from the right to access to health.
It is learned from the news coverage of February 12, 2024, that prisoners on hunger strike in Antalya Manavgat Prison were pressured to end the hunger strike.

Journalist Selamet Turan, who was detained in a house raid in the Cizre district of Şırnak on February 9, 2024, and taken to Diyarbakır, was arrested by the Criminal Peace Judgeship on February 12, 2024, on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’.

Journalist Kibriye Evren, who was detained on February 9, 2024, was released on judicial control condition by Kocaeli Criminal Peace Judgeship No 1 on February 12, 2024. It is reported that 1 (Ersin Er) of 19 people detained through the same investigation was arrested and 18 people were released on judicial control condition.

On February 13, 2024, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporters Semra Turan, Delal Akyüz, and Tolga Güney, JINNEWS reporter Melike Aydın, Gazete Duvar reporter Cihan Başakçıoğlu and Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) press worker Fatma Funda Akbulut were detained on the allegations of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. It is learned that 6 people are kept in the Izmir TEM Branch and are subjected to a 24-hour lawyer restriction as well as a confidentiality and restriction order on the case file.

At least 13 people were detained during house raids in Istanbul on February 13, 2024. The reason for the detentions could not be learned. The names of the detainees are Şahin Özyıldırım, Rıza Kaplan, Nesim Özkan, Nureddin Aydoğan, Helin Akman, Alattin Altıntaş, Erkan Talaş, Şükrü Güler, Umut Delil Aksoy, Devran Kurt, Resul Gedlec, Melike Akman, Mizgin Akman.

On February 12, 2024, in an intervention against the visit to shopkeepers for the “Great Freedom March” organized by Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Diyarbakır, the police surrounded the group including Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor candidates and district co-mayor candidates and prevented them from marching. It is learned that 1 person was wounded during the intervention. Diyarbakır co-mayor candidate for Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Doğan Hatun, Kulp co-mayor candidate Murat İpek and a person named Ejder Akçan were detained after the intervention. All 3 people were released on the same day after statement procedures.
According to the news coverage of February 12, 2024, Fatih Erbakan, the chair of Yeniden Refah Partisi (Yeniden Refah Party), made a speech containing phobic and discriminatory expressions at the meeting where he announced his party’s election manifesto. Fatih Erbakan stated the following in his speech: “O our beloved nation, whose generations are being attacked by perverted organizations and global LGBT lobbies, the fight against the LGBTI perversion, the scourge of the century, which is a global attack on human and nature, is the honor debt of Yeniden Refah (…) We will not sacrifice the innocent children of our beloved nation to the operations of LGBT lobbies. Refah municipalities will take all kinds of measures against these in our cities. They will take steps to prevent propaganda, advertising, and activities. We will close the gender offices opened by the municipality, one by one, and when we come to power in 2028, we will close all LGBT associations one by one.”

The final trial of the case against Hilal Ada was held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on February 13, 2024. The indictment demands a sentence for Hilal Ada on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court acquitted Hilal Ada. Hilal Ada was detained on April 25, 2023, and was released on judicial control condition at the hearing of the case held on September 12, 2023.
(02/122) People on Trial about the Bomb Attack in Istanbul…
On February 12, 2024, the trial of the case against 36 people, including 13 arrestees, for the bomb attack on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on November 13, 2022, in which 6 people lost their lives, continued at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13. The prosecutor declared the final opinion on the case and demanded 7 times aggravated life imprisonment and jail sentence from 1949 to 3009 years for A. A., the alleged perpetrator of the attack. He demanded acquittal of 5 people and various prison sentences for other defendants. The court released 3 people, decided to continue detention of 10 people and adjourned the trial to April 15, 2024.
