It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023 that a child named Y.Ş. (17, m) in Kütahya was wounded in the leg by a soldier named C.S. after a quarrel in traffic. It is learned that C.S. was detained by the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that Mehmet Güvcin, a prisoner in Şırnak T Type Closed Prison, died in Diyarbakır Hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that books and blankets of some prisoners in Şırnak T Type Prison were seized by correction officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that Ferit Kilis, former Yüreğir district chair of the Labor Party (EMEP) in Adana Kürkçüler Prison, has not been able to access his heart medication for 4 months due to problems in supply.
Ferit Kilis was sentenced to 5 years and 9 months in prison for his social media posts about the death fasts in prisons and sent to Adana Kürkçüler Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that a person named İ. K., who was raided at his house and detained on December 12, 2023, and his family members were subjected to torture and ill-treatment by the police.
The wife of İ. K., whose reason for detention is not known, made the following statement about the torture and ill-treatment: “During the raid this morning, they tortured my husband in my presence for 1.5 hours. Under the pretext of a house search, they forced him to the ground and tortured him with kicks and slaps, squeezing his throat and stepping on his feet, leaving him breathless. They also attacked me, my mother, and my father because we resisted the torture. Special Forces were in the house during the search and tortured us for 1.5 hours, using swear words. The civilian TEM chief who led the raid threatened my mother by saying, ‘You will see what I will do to you’.”

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that a bus driver named Ayhan G. in Istanbul was subjected to physical violence by a police officer named A. Y. with whom he had a quarrel. It is reported that the IETT driver Ayhan G., who was prosecuted on the charges of ‘resisting a police officer’, ‘disturbing peace and harmony of people’, and ‘intentional injury’, was released by the court on judicial control condition.

Ahmed Katie, a human rights defender from Syria, was arrested by the court on December 12, 2023, on charges of espionage following his statement to the prosecutor’s office at Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse.
Ahmed Katie was abducted on the evening of November 27, 2023, by 3 alleged intelligence officers and was not heard from for 15 days.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that 3 people (Hebun Erimfil, Toprak Karsu, Mehmet with unknown surname) were detained in house raids in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır and were taken to Silvan Gendarmerie Command. The reason for detention could not be learned.

Mustafa Bor, who was detained in a house raid in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari on the grounds of ‘denunciation’, was released after his statement at Yüksekova District Security Directorate on December 12, 2023.

On December 12, 2023, the Tatvan Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against Bitlis Journalists Association Chairperson and Journalist Sinan Aygül on charges of ‘insult’ based on his remarks about the mayor’s bodyguards attacking him, which was accepted by the Tatvan Penal Court of First Instance No 1.
On June 17, 2023, Aygül was physically attacked by two bodyguards of Tatvan Mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani, one of whom was a police officer, after he reported on corruption and irregularities in the Tatvan Municipality.

The indictment against journalist Elif Akgül, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ in her social media posts, was accepted by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 13 on December 13, 2023. The trial will begin on April 2, 2024.

The trial of the case against Hilal Ada continued on December 12, 2023, at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4. The indictment demands a sentence for Hilal Ada on the charge of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’. The court rejected the demand to lift the judicial control measure against Ada and adjourned the trial to February 13, 2024. Hilal Ada was detained on April 25, 2023, and released on judicial control condition at the hearing of the case held on September 12, 2023.

The first hearing of the case against Mor Dayanışma member Sevde Ünal, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ for carrying a banner during the March 8, 2023, Feminist Night March, was held on December 12, 2023, at Izmir Bayraklı Penal Court of First Instance No 10. The court adjourned the hearing to April 16, 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 12, 2023, that Van Public Prosecutor’s Office decided not to prosecute the investigation against K. K., a specialist sergeant in Van Gendarmerie Command, for ‘qualified sexual abuse’ and physical violence of M. K. (15, k), on the grounds that ‘the crime is subject to complaint’.

Region, Gabar Mountain Region, Altın Dağ Region, İncebel Mountain Region, Oymakaya Region and Tanin Tanin Region as temporary special security zones between December 12, 2023 and December 26, 2023.
