(04/111) Asylum Seekers Died in Aydın…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2023 that, 2 asylum seekers were found dead on the shore of Sazlık Bay of Kuşadası district of Aydın.

(04/112) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 13, 2023 that, the family visit duration which should be 90 minutes was limited to 45 minutes for the political prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison, and they were not allowed to use their video call rights; the food given to prisoners was off quality, the water provided to wards was dirty and hot water was provided for only 1 hour per 2 days due to which some prisoners could not bath, the books and writings of prisoners were seized during ward searches, and their petitions were not put in process.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 12, 2023 that, an investigation was launched against a journalist named A. K. Y. upon the complaint of a prosecutor with whom they had a quarrel in the bus in Trabzon on April 1, 2023 and that A. K. Y. was detained at the police station after going there to make official statement through the investigation.

It is learned that 4 people were detained in house raids in Antalya on April 13, 2023, on the grounds of the slogans chanted at the Newroz celebration on March 19, 2023.

(04/115) Detained Child in Şırnak…

On April 13, 2023, a 17-year-old child named A. İ. was detained in a house raid in Cizre district of Şırnak. The reason for detention is unknown.

(04/116) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against journalist Levent Gültekin on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ by saying “President is clearly lying to the public” is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 23 on April 13, 2023. The court decided to acquit Levent Gültekin.

The trial of the case against 8 people who were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held in Ankara on August 12, 2022 to protest Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No. 53 on April 12, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to May 17, 2023.

The trial of the case against 15 people who were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held in Van on October 10, 2018 to commemorate those who lost their lives in the October 10-Ankara Massacre, is held at Van Penal Court of First Instance No. 7 on April 13, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 15 people on the charge of ‘resisting to prevent duty’. The court adjourned the trial to June 22, 2023.

(04/119) Police Officer on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against police officer Murat A., on the grounds of hitting and breaking the back of lawyer Zeycan Balcı, during a press declaration on March 30, 2016 in front of Istanbul Court House, is held on Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 22 on April 12, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Murat A. on the charges of ‘injury’, ‘intentional injury that cause bone fracture’, ‘extensive use of force’. The court adjourned the trial to May 31, 2023.

It is learned that the article of journalist Mustafa Balbay about the penalty given to Turkey by the International Court of Arbitration, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 3 on April 6, 2023.

It is learned that anonymous person or persons attacked on the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) election campaign office in Mamak district of Ankara on April 12, 2023 which caused material damage at the office.

(04/122) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…

It is learned from the news coverage that, the number of contractors who were arrested for their responsibility in the buildings collapsed in Antep and Maraş earthquakes is 331 as of April 12, 2023.

The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 12, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,790 of them were identified and given to their families, 39 children were in the hospital, 78 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 21 children could not be identified.
