(04/136) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of April 12, 2021 that, 4 prisoners in Antalya Alanya L Type Prison were subjected to disciplinary proceedings for they participated in the hunger strike demanding an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan; and they were penalised with 11 days of solitary confinement.

It is learned that the appeal made on April 12, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.
(04/138) Detained Mayor, Political Party and Association Members and Executives and Journalist in Diyarbakır…
On April 5, 2021, 25 people including Çınar district mayor Necla Tamriş, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) central executive board member Zeynep Üren and Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır.
3 people (TJA activist Zelal Bilgin, Diyarbakır city council members Bahar Karakaş Uluğ and Rabia Tekas) are arrested by the court on April 12, 2021.
11 people are arrested through this investigation so far while 14 people are released provided that 1 person will be on house confinement and 12 people will be on judicial control conditions.
(04/139) Co-Mayor on Trial…
The trial of the case against Remziye Yaşar, suspended Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-mayor of Yüksekova district of Hakkari, is held at Hakkari Heavy Penal Court No 1 on April 12, 2021.
Remziye Yaşar joined the trial via sound and vision system. The court decided to continue detention of Remziye Yaşar and adjourned the trial to June 7, 2021.
Remziye Yaşar was detained on October 15, 2019 and was arrested on October 17, 2019. Ministry of Interior appointed a trustee to Yüksekova on October 19, 2019.

It is learned that an investigation is initiated against Zeynep Zarıçlar, a member of Women’s Committee of Public Services Employees Union of Turkey (Genel-İş) Izmir branch, for the expression “dictator” in her speech at the press declaration about Istanbul Convention. It is reported that Zeynep Zarıçlar made her official statement through the investigation at Izmir Security Directorate on April 12, 2021.
(04/141) Non-Prosecution Decision on Injury of a Civilian Shot by Security Forces in Van…
It is learned from the news coverage of April 12, 2021 that, Van Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution on the investigation against 4 members of security forces regarding injury of Mehmet Ali Nametoğulları; on the grounds that the perpetrator was not found. Mehmet Ali Nametoğulları was shot by gendarmerie officers, after he lied down on the ground following the ‘stop’ warning, in Erçek area in between İpekyolu and Özalp districts of Van on February 6, 2021.
It is reported that Van Penal Court of Peace No 2 rejected the appeal to the non-prosecution decision.
It is learned that the indictment against Mehmet Ali Nametoğulları on the charge of ‘resisting a public officer to prevent their duty’, is accepted by Van Penal Court of First Instance No 7.

On April 12, 2021, 3 people are detained in house raids in Adana.
(04/143) Covid-19 Pandemic…
The Ministry of Health declared that 243 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,671 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 12, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 54,562.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 34,182 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,903,573 as of April 12, 2021.
On April 12, 2021, 2 health workers (nurse Nurcan Doğan in Ankara and anaesthesia technician Ercan Usta in Istanbul) lost their lives from Covid-19.
