The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Muhammed Küçük) died in the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 13, 2023.
(05/103) Person Died by Police Fire in Izmir…
Police officer F. Y., who was detained in relation to death of a person named Semih Güler lost his life when the police coming over a report in Konak district of Izmir; opened fire on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ and ‘resistance to the police’ on May 11, 2023; was arrested on May 12, 2023.
(05/104) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Ankara…
In the report shared with the public on May 12, 2023, Ankara Bar Association announced that Nuri Gökhan Bozkır, who was detained in Ukraine and brought to Turkey through the investigation regarding the assassination of Necip Hablemitoğlu, was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment in custody. The report states the following: “The victim’s allegations constitute the crime of torture, including sexual harassment and constitute the qualified forms of the crime described in national regulations (…) It is understood that it is inevitable to qualify it as torture (…) considering the intensity, severity and duration of the actions of public officials against the applicant, and its long-term physical and especially psychological effects on the victim. It is understood that (…) there are allegations of intense violence and the threat of violence (…) against the applicant.”

It is learned that 2 people were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police and were detained in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on May 14, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 13, 2023 that, the President and the Justice and Development Party (AKP) chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was on live broadcast for 48 hours and 45 minutes, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) chair was on live broadcast for 28 hours and 53 minutes, while the Republican People’s Party (CHP) was on live broadcast for 32 minutes between April 1, 2023 and May 11, 2023.
Kemal Özkiraz, the founder of Eurasia Research Company, was detained in Ankara on May 13, 2023 as part of an investigation launched upon the complaint of Muharrem İnce.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023, that the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) observers in Mardin were subjected to physical attacks by alleged AKP members and 2 people were injured as a result of the attack.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023, that YSP observers were subjected to physical attacks by alleged village guards in Şenoba town of Uludere district of Şırnak.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023, that the observers at Şırnak High School in central district of Şırnak were removed from the building by the order of the Governor.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that YSP observers at Mekan Secondary School in Seyhan district of Adana were subjected to physical attacks by people who were reported to be AKP observers, and one person was injured as a result of the attack.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that YSP school representative was physically attacked and injured at Hazım Ersu Primary School in Bahçelievler district of Istanbul by people who were reported to be members of the AKP.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that a member of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) at Neslişah Imam Hatip Secondary School in Fatih district of Istanbul was subjected to physical violence and injured by officials who were reported to be AKP members.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that a ballot box official was subjected to physical violence and injured by a group allegedly attempting to vote illegally, in Kardeşler hamlet of Akçakale district of Urfa.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that CHP officials were subjected to physical violence by a group who allegedly attempted to vote illegally, in Minare village of Harran district of Urfa.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that a Swiss delegation in Şırnak to monitor and observe the election, was not allowed by the police and gendarmerie in the schools where the ballot boxes were set up.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that a lawyer was threatened by a person who is reported to be the AKP school principal at Sabri Kün Primary School in Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır, saying, “I won’t let you around here, get out of here, I will beat you”.
It is learned from the news coverage of May 14, 2023 that 4 people were injured with a knife during the quarrel between the officials of different parties during the open counting at Lütfiye Benli Secondary School in Tarsus district of Mersin.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 12, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.
(05/108) The Case Against Human Rights Defender and Other People in Izmir…
The trial of the case against 6 people including human rights defender and medical secretary of the HRFT in Izmir Aytül Uçar and the Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) member Erdoğan Akdoğdu is held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No. 49 which was to be held on May 12, 2023 is postponed to July 12, 2023 as the defendants and their lawyers did not join the trial on excuse. 6 people (Aytül Uçar, Emine Akbaba, İrem Çelikbaş, lawyer Erdoğan Akdoğdu and 2 others) have been detained by the police intervening the protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, held in Izmir on June 24, 2021. The indictment demands sentence for 6 people on the charges of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ and ‘insult’.

The final trial of the case against conscientious objector Ersan Uğur Gör on the grounds that he was a roll-call evader is held at Sakarya Penal Court of First Instance No. 3 on May 12, 2023. The court sentenced Ersan Uğur Gör to an administrative fine of 15,000 TL in total.

It is learned that the online dictionary Ekşi Sözlük’s websites https://eksisozluk2023.com and https://eksisozluk42.com were banned to access by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 6 on May 13, 2023 and by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ on May 14, 2023.
